Susan E. Huck, 61

Susan E. Huck, 61, of Lancaster, PA passed away on Good Friday with her true love and husband, Richard, by her side after a yearlong struggle with cancer. They were married for 40 years this past August.

Born in the Bronx, NYC, Susan graduated from Parsippany High School, NJ where she met her future husband, although she did not realize it at the time. A Millersville University graduate with Bachelor’s and Masters degrees in history and art history, Susan taught at the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design before retiring. She also worked in the fashion industry as a manager, buyer and consultant. In addition to this Susan enjoyed reading, writing and poetry, which she would do on a daily basis.

All who knew Susan, even for a moment, realized what a special person she was; personable, beautiful inside and out, great wit and a smile that can melt your heart.

Friends can mingle and celebrate her life at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Friday April 12th from 6 to 7pm with a service to follow until 8pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Susan’s name to the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602. To send an online condolence, please visit: Snyderfuneralhome.com. Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory 717-560-5100

Rick,
I have always held tight the memories of Sue. . . especially, when I was say, six or seven years of age.  She was a great story teller –  tasked herself to entertain, or maybe it was to control me, during many of those boring for a kid, family get together(s) in NJ. . .I also loved how interested she was to hear my teenage stories reference outdoor adventures, and viewing  my frozen mammal collections stowed away in the basement freezer.  LOL … I also enjoyed each of you as a couple.  Enchantment and fun always came to my home when Rick and Sue came for a visit.
I wish emotional comfort for you Rick –
Clifford T Hammond and Family

Rick,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your wife.  I never had the opportunity to meet her but I could see the love in your eyes as you talked of her and I’m sure she was a very special person.  Please be good to yourself and remember there are friends all around you for those difficult days.
Kathy Hartman

Diane and I are so sorry to hear about Susan.
We’ve had you in our prayers for quite a while now especially since we are also experiencing the emotional roller-coaster families go through when a loved one is battling this disease.
Please let me know if I can be of any help, if only to be a good listener.
Kevin Robinson

Mr. Huck "Rick",

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  May you find comfort in this trying time and know that you are thought of quite often.  I wish I could be there in person, but the military is quite restrictive sometimes.  Please take care of yourself and you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Rebekah Gundrum

I spoke with Susan by phone many times before I had the privilege of meeting her. When I called, Susan always asked how I was; I always responded, "I’m just Ducky." Susan laughed and said, You’re Ducky" and she laughed again. Then Susan would call Rick to the phone by announcing that Ducky was on the line. Whenever I called, this was our routine, but it was never this brief. I bet I spent more time on the phone chatting with Susan than I did with Rick. Susan was as smart as she was fun. During the last year, there were fewer and fewer "Ducky" calls. I already miss those calls. Susan was special.

My sincerest condolences Rick.

Rick,

In this time of saying Goodbye …

I smile to remember all the laughter & fun Sue would bring to our gathering of friends…

‘Her impeccable style – her fond love of her dogs…

‘ But most of All & Every Time we shared company –
the look of Love in her eyes for

                                                                  ‘Her – Ricky’

For that part of the Goodbye –  we shed a tear in her memory …

But for now & until later – she is safe without pain –
without all those things that took so much from her,

but never Her Beautiful Spirit & Love !

To all those things & so many more … We send our Love & Support !

                                                                  Randy & Roxanne DeWitt

Susan was a friend of mine during our years at Millersville. She always could make me laugh with her stories. Her insights into everything was so clear and thought provoking. My condolences on your loss.

So sorry to read the news. I always thought Sue was a fun, pretty and friendly gal. Although I didn’t know her very well, when I thought of her, I saw a smiling blond face. See you Friday. Lanny & Diane Ammon

Rick,

I can’t begin to tell you how saddened I was to see that Sue had passed away. It is just impossible to imagine. When I think of Sue I think of her laughter and her enthusiasm. She could turn the most ordinary of days into something very special and memorable. She was so warm and giving. I will cherish my memories of her and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Fondly,
Joanne Freund

Linda and I were so sorry to hear of Sue’s passing. She fought a long hard fight against a horrible foe and now her pain is gone and is at peace. She will be missed. We’ll be praying for your strength and comfort.

Terry and Linda Martzall

Dear Rick,

My heart goes out to you. When my mom told me I was completely shocked.

I still remember that bus ride in Paris. You w/ your arms full & Sue all snuggled up to you smiling, only to get off the bus and find out it wasn’t you rubbing her backside! Boy, did we have a good laugh on that one. And then you guys taking care of me when I ran out of money. What a fund kid I was back then. I still have pictures of us around Jim Morrison’s headstone. What an awesome trip that was!

I also remember you saying how you always left 2 openings in all you illustrations, now Sue can move through them. She was a phenomenal woman, she will be missed.

All my love, Erica Mowen

Dear Rick, I am so sorry for your loss. You & Susan are in my prayers.

Carole Kirchner

Rick: So sorry for your loss. If there is anything that we can do please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail.

Rick,

You have my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your soulmate. I look back at the Brass Balls joke I played on Sue many years ago and the scratches on my side from your dog when I visited you two once; I sure had a tough time convincing my better half that those were not scratches from a woman.

I hope you, as well, are able to build your strength from such happy memories.

Jerry Solomon

Rick,

As always it was great to talk with you, but very saddened with the knowledge that Sue will no longer be there with you, nor in our lives. A terrific lady that we all will miss. Jeanne was very upset at the news of her passing. I will now redouble my efforts to stay in touch with you.

Our Greatest Regards,
Mark and Jeanne Newman

Rick,
What can I say?  When I saw Sue’s obituary in the paper, I cried.  You two were the perfect devoted couple.  You reminded me of Norm & me.  She had such a great smile and positive spirit that she will never really be gone.  She’ll always be in my heart.
Regretfully,
Diane Grinager

Richard,  This is a blast from your past – I am so very sorry to read of Susan’s passing.  I truly have fond memories of my long relationship with her – and you.  I will say a prayer for you both.
            Most sincerely,   Fred Teschner

Dear Rick,

We send our heartfelt expressions of sympathy as you continue on this life journey without Sue. May grace rain upon you abundantly and bring comfort during your time of grieving. Truly the depth of the sorrow is a measure of the love and joy the two of you had for over four decades. What a gift.

Sincerely,
Ike & Teri Hay
