Condolences to the Family

To the Family of Rev. Hilbert;
  I had the opportunity of  working with Father Hilbert for many years thru the farmworker programs in Adams and Franklin Counties.  He was well liked and respected by both the farmworkers and the staff of the farmworker programs.  So many will miss him, we all loved him dearly at the Adams and Franklin offices for the migrant farmworkers.
Sincerely, Jessie V Smith

Sincerest condolences to the loving family and friends of Father Hilbert of which there are many I am sure.  I came to know Father Hilbert when he was pastor of St. Rose of Lima’s parish in York, PA.  An examination of the many fine works that Father Hilbert was responsible for beyond the parish work should convince anyone even unfamiliar with Father Hilbert that he is now enjoying many rewards that are “out of this World.”  With many loving memories.
Sincerely,
Dr. Richard and Joan Clark, Dover, PA.

Our deepest sympathy to the family of Fr.Hillbet we will always remember him for his lively no nosense homilies and his wonderful sense of dry humor. He was a great asset to the St. Joseph family and will most certainly be missed. Peace be with you Father.   Sincerly Barbara and Bill Dohan

Having met Fr. Hilbert in 1977 when we both served on the Diocesan Social Justice Commission, I appreciated his commitment to the marginalized of our society….and that was always so evident.  He marched for civil rights in the l960s on behalf of the Diocese of Harrisburg and worked with frarmworkers in Adams County as well as in the northern part of the diocese.
Then when he came to Gettysburg area, he took the time to learn Spanish and truly evangalized the Hispanic community at Christo Rey and then merged the two parishes with appreciation of cultures of St. Francis and Christo Rey.
In 1998, he was awarded the Peacemaker award by ICPJ (Interfaith Center for Peace and Justice) for his commitment to peace and justice ove3r his oifetime.
He has blest the life journeys of so many!
Mary Furlong
