Andrea Moranz-Cubbison, 52
December 24, 2015
On Christmas Eve morning, Andrea Moranz Cubbison, 52, peacefully passed from complications due to cancer. She was surrounded by loving family and confident in God’s grace.
To know Andrea was to love her. She connected with people on many levels with great warmth and an unassuming presence, and was beloved by many for her graciousness, humor, kindness, and generosity. Andrea’s passions included her husband, Miles, and 3 children, Stuart, Ethan, and Ellie, and she believed that being a loving and available mother was her greatest accomplishment. Born in Lancaster, PA, Andrea’s other survivors include parents, Kitty and Andy Moranz, of Lancaster, and her sisters, Martha Jacobs (Wexford, PA), Joan Hinnenkamp (New Orleans, LA), Alicia Moranz-Farkas, and Kate Brossman (both of the Lancaster area), along with brothers-in-law, Paul, Steve & Doug. Also missing Andrea are her in-laws Kitty and Bob Cubbison and sister-in-law Karen and her husband Craig Socie. Time with sisters and close friends, Victoria, Eliese, Winnie, Lore, among others was important to her.
For years, Andrea avidly played singles and doubles women and mixed 4.0 tennis. She enjoyed competing including the 2013 mixed doubles 18+ 7.0 national level USTA championship team. She often surprised others with her tenacious competitiveness even while dealing with her illness. She gave gifts of her time, talents and treasure to family, friends, and others simply in need. Every Christmas, you could find her and her family serving meals at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Andrea also volunteered with Special Olympics, the Wheelchair tennis tournament, Lancaster Hospice, Junior League of Lancaster, and served on the Board of the Red Rose Credit Union. She loved her time at the ocean, bringing laughter to others even during her cancer journey, had a particular penchant for practical jokes, and enjoyed a fondness for finely ironed clothing. Not least of all, she explored and found comfort in her faith during this journey.
Employed by Lancaster General Hospital since 2007, Andrea served as Manager of Volunteer Services and Community Outreach. She was highly regarded by her many volunteers and co-workers, and admired and loved them back. She created and implemented the hospital’s Cuddler Program at Women and Babies NICU unit, re-invigorated the pet therapy program there and was instrumental in expanding the Project SEARCH program which enabled young adults with cognitive and physical challenges to transition into the work place. Prior to this, she worked as a Branch Manager for Fulton Bank. Andrea graduated from LCHS in1981, attended Marymount University in Virginia, and graduated from Penn State with a BA in 1985.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Rudy and Lore Rigano for their love and support through this journey as well as the many fine surgeons, doctors and nurses of NY Presbyterian- Columbia, Weill Cornell and LGH’s Barshinger Center staff including Dr. Randall Oyer.
Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial to be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster, with Rev. David Danneker as Celebrant. Visitations will be on Monday, December 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA and on Tuesday, from 10-11 a.m. at the church. There will be a private internment. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to fund future research into Leiomyosarcoma, a rare and complicated disease: LMSarcoma Direct Research (or) LMSdr, Post Office Box 52697, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74152.

It was with great saddness and some surprise that our group of knitters at Village Grande learned of the tragic loss of such a sweet and caring woman. In my short time of knowing Andrea, I was so impressed with her organizational skills, her beauty and poise, but most of all her sincere concern for people — those who needed our knitted and crocheted items and those who provided them. Her thanks to us just overflowed. She almost came to tears with appreciation for how these hand-made items made the sick, the needy and even the joyful feel when a new baby came into the world or left on angel wings.
I will personally miss her smiling devotion to her job at LGH. May she rest in peace.
With love and condolences,
From Ronda Shiffrin and the Sit N’ Stitch Group at Village Grande

To know Andrea truly was to love her. Working with her at LGH was such a joy-her smile always lit up my day and her presence, calm and competent approach made others look on in admiration, including myself. While her role at work was important it was all of you that were the center of her life. In the five years I was blessed to know her , she always spoke of each of you with love and pride. Our talks at a round table in my office were always enjoyable -and I always loved her crisp, finely pressed outfits!
I believe that Andrea possessed that special light that drew people to her because she was so deeply, deeply good in her spirit .She truly gave glory to God by her life and exemplified love in her every interaction with others. As I watched her in her job, I knew that her presence with others was truly a gift that only a few possess and many aspire to.
i cannot tell you how I miss her already as I am sure you know and how she will be always remembered as the gift that she was to all of us at LGH and everywhere.

For Miles and the Moranz and Cubbison Families:
I knew Andrea & Miles when I worked at Pappy’s Restaurant. Miles, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Andrea. What a sweet, fun and loving person. I really admired her beauty inside and out. When I was in my early 20’s, she helped me get my first credit card, through Fulton Bank, to help me establish my credit. There is another angel in heaven and I’m sure she will be with you all, as you go through this sad time. My sincere condolences.
Love & Light …. Ann (Rubright) Rogers

Andrea was an AMAZING woman who was so gracious for all the volunteers at LGH! Her smile was contagious and God has taken a caring spirit into his arms! For only knowing her for just a short time (3 years a volunteer), she still was a bright part in my life! God Bless Andrea’s family – Maria Kapsak

While I attended the Tuesday visitation and Mass, I did not get a chance to personally express my deepest sympathy to all of her family members, several of whom I had the pleasure and privilege of teaching. In my 41 years of teaching over 6,000 students and athletes, Andrea is and always be in my top 10 of all-around students. While I will pray for her, I will also pray TO her for surely she is a saint in heaven.
Warmest regards, Andy Benko

To the Moranz Family-
Though I have not kept up over the years, I remember our family reunions as our families each had five girls with our family topping the count with two boys. I cannot imagine losing a sister (or daughter for Kitty and Andy). Your family has faithfully worshipped a Heavenly Father who you can now trust and lean on as you go through this sad time. I regret I was unable to make the visitation or funeral, but please know my thoughts and prayers are with all of you and Andrea’s husband and children in your time of grief.

Dear Cubbison family,
I am the teacher for Project SEARCH Program at LGH and Andrea was our Liaison. She was more than a co-worker to our team, she was our friend. She was a true advocate for the student interns and a champion for us. She facilitated getting us internships in new departments to give students new opportunities every year. She gave of herself so freely, even during this last few months as she has been so tired, she was relentless in reaching out for the sake of the students. Her optimism and enthusiasm never waned. We just want you to know how much she has meant to us and what a large vacuum will be left in her absence. She is a beautiful person inside and out. We admire and appreciate her. You will be in our prayers. Jane Walker, Janelle Roberts, Cheryl Lennon

Sincere condolences to Andrea’s family,
I knew Andrea when she worked at Fulton Bank and for a while a small group of us women would get together occasionally to catch up, even after she and some others left the bank. I remember her talking about her family with pride when we did get together and share what was new in our lives. Unfortunately we allowed busy schedules to get in the way and I have not seen her for many years. She packed a lot of life and love in those 52 years and I know you will all miss her.
Most sincerely,
Carolyn French

The KPETS family wants to express our sympathy to Andrea’s family and friends. Andrea was instrumental in getting KPETS teams into Lancaster General Hospital and the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Center. Her enthusiasm and kindness will be remembered by those of us who knew her. Some of our LGH/KPETS teams will be at the visitation tonight to honor Andrea’s memory and her dedication to the patients that our KPETS teams visited. Andrea helped to bring comfort to many, hopefully our teams can bring some comfort to those who loved her.

Miles, Stu, Ethan and Ellie, We only wish that we had had more time to get to know Andrea. However the bond that she established with Cailen over the past few years certainly confirms what a loving and caring person she was. She accomplished much during her life and your family is a testament to her strength and influence. While she was taken from you far too soon, be forever thankful for the time you had to share with her. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you. Frank & Susan Spingler

There aren’t any words to express how sad to have lost such a wonderful loving woman! It was such a pleasure to work with her. She was always interested taking time out of her busy schedule to talk with anyone who came into the office. Always had a smile and gave her full undivided attention. She will be missed but always remembered. She fought so long and so hard to conquer this terrible disease. Fortunately she didn’t suffer and her family was all with her.

Andrea was a very special person to me. She was my supervisor back in the late 80’s at Fulton Bank, Park City Office for over 5 years. Andrea taught me so much regarding leadership. Even though I was 13 yrs older than her, she had such insite and maturity that I treasured. As I became a manger I mirrored her management style and had fantastic success in my career. I attribute my successes to her. Andrea and I remained friends all these years. We made every effort to meet and catch up on family and our crazy schedules. She will be truly missed. I loved her so much and told her so every chance I got. My prayers go out to her precious husband Miles, and her darling children, Ellie, Ethan, and Stuart she loved dearly. May God be with the Moranz and Cubbison Families. Sincerely and lovingly, Janeane Gainer – Lititz

Dear Cubbison Family:
We wish to extend our deep sympathy to you on the loss of you wife and mother. I graduated with your mother back in 1981 and my son Joseph graduated with Ethan in 2014. We will keep you all in our prayers. Stay close to God. He will help you all thru this most difficult time. Sounds like your family was already close to God by the way you all helped the needy at Christmas by feeding them at St. Anne’s. That was how Andrea always was…there for you when you needed her. God rest her soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed. Keep the faith guys…keep the faith.
Love,
Rita and Joseph Herr

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Cubbison & Moranz familes. I was shocked & saddened to hear of Andrea’s passing. I attended LCHS with Andrea’s sister,Martha Moranz, and my children Amanda Krow & Emily Krow attended St. Anne’s school with Stuart & Ethan for several years before we relocated to Delmarva peninsula in late 2005. Andrea & I were there for our children at St. Anne’s School frequently volunteering, chaperoning field trips, etc… She was always very kind to me and my children and was always a joy to be around. I will keep your family in my prayers through this difficult, stressful time.
Sincerely,
Amy (Childs) Nicholls

I’ve admired Andrea since I was in 7th grade at St. Anne’s, and she was in 8th. She and Eliese were so friendly, happy, and sincere. They were, in my eyes, simply perfect. It was wonderful to reconnect with her since Ellie and Christopher have been in the same class since kindergarten. She and Miles have lived up to that same level of perfection, kindness, and sincerity. So many people have been praying so much for Andrea and her family for so long, because she has touched so many lives. Her obituary is a magnificent tribute to her life. She is an inspiration for all of us. Our prayers will continue.
