My heart is deeply saddened.  I was looking to find my old friend Herbert with thoughts of calling to say hi.  We were friends in Douglas Freeman and lived in the Fort Hill development.  We traveled the downtown of Richmond and Herb taught me play pool.  It was a little costly as I lost, but he paid for the soda and meal with his winnings.  I am so sorry for the family’s loss.  God be with you always.

Herb was a wonderful man.  It was always a pleasure to work with him.  He was a role model in many ways, including his professionalism, his intellectual curiosity, his kindness to all, his devoltion to family and his steadfast spirituality.  We are confident that his passing from this life is not an end for Herb, but just a transition.
We wish the best of faith and hope in the days ahead for Herb’s fantastic family and loved ones.

I am saddened to learn of Herb’s passing.   I used to run at lunch with him at the Region 1 office and while many people his age and younger were content to lounge around during break time he would wasn’t interested in that.  At lunch, Herb would be out in the King of Prussia neighborhoods working out.  Now that I am older his work out effort inspires me to push on.  A consummate professional he was proud of his Virginia Tech education and southern roots – a point that I had fun with at his NRC retirement ceremony many years ago.   Herb also appreciated the fine microbreweries of Lancaster County, and on a few occasions, he delivered to me in upstate New York some of the finest beverages from Stoudts.  Good memories and Good times.
