John F. Haser , III, 49
August 20, 2017
John F. Haser , III, the fourth child of Anne and John Haser Jr, died unexpectedly on August 20, 2017 at the age of 49.
Johnny, as he was known to his family and friends, attended Penn Manor High School, where he played soccer and performed in many musicals and plays. He graduated from Point Park University in his beloved Pittsburgh, PA, where he studied English and Journalism, and was the keeper for their soccer team.
After school, he worked in a variety of fields including Union organizing, food brokering, and marketing, but his path lead him primarily to the hospitality industry and journalism, two of his passions.
In his younger years, John loved nature, camping and hikes at Pinnacle and later Chiques. It was there where he had a premonition about his then unborn daughter, who was later named for this vision. He was an avid Steelers and Penguins fan and he played Ultimate Frisbee for many years. He coached soccer for his son’s REC team, and was especially popular with the team for treating them to slushies for assists and goals made with their left foot. He enjoyed arguing about politics and took every opportunity to do so. He took pride in building things and solving problems few others could, particularly computer related issues. He was, by his own account, a “jack of all trades, master of none.” He enjoyed fine food, and some of his favorite events were the dinner and Halloween parties he hosted. A more recent favorite past time was teaching his children about history, science, and space. His son, perhaps his biggest fan, was looking forward to watching the Eclipse with him, as they had been talking about it together for weeks prior to the event. Johnny was endlessly curious about the world: he delighted in learning anything and everything, from the latest discoveries in physics and astronomy to the most minute facts about the most obscure topics.
Most of all, John loved his family and was fiercely loyal to them and to his friends. His untimely death is a tragic loss to all who loved him. He will be deeply missed by his daughter Susquehanna (Hanna-age 14); his son Evan (age 9); his wife of 18 years, Bethena; his mother Anne; and his sisters Joanne, Maryanne, and Lisa. He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Haser Jr, who passed away in January of this year.
A drop- in Celebration of Life will be held at the Hempfield Fire Hall Pavilion, 19 W. Main St. Landisville, PA from 2 to 4:30PM Saturday August 26, 2017. Please come with stories and laughter to celebrate John’s life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hanna and Evan Haser Memorial Fund, Citadel Credit Union, 100 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601.
