Nora Ann Pohl, 85

Nora Ann Pohl, 85, of Lancaster died on November 12, 2017 at Homestead Village where she was a guest for a short time. She was born in Atlantic City, NJ to the late Matthew Edwin Maguire and the late Brigit Catherine (McGilley) Maguire. Nora is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles Edward Pohl, M.D.
After graduating high school in Atlantic City in 1950, Nora moved to Philadelphia to attend Hahnenmann University Nursing School where she received her degree to be a Registered Nurse. While attending nursing school, she met her beloved husband, Edward. In 1965, they moved to Lancaster with their five children where she Managed her husband’s medical office. She also was the owner of St. Pol Enterprises which exhibited in Chicago, New York, Miami, Washington and Baltimore.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Lancaster, past President of the Lancaster Medical Society Auxiliary, and volunteered Conestoga View as well as Head Start. Nora and her husband enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe and Asia. Nora enjoyed cooking and was a devoted wife and mother who loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving beside her husband Edward, are five children; Charles Edward Pohl II (Joan) of Coto de Caza, CA, Edward Franklin Pohl (Joanne) of Lancaster, PA, Daniel Joseph Pohl (Julie) of Darnstown, MD, Michael James Pohl (Kerry) of Arlington, VA, and Marie Michelle “Mimi” Mackey (James) of Bellevue, WA, and fourteen grandchildren; Charles, Michael, James, and Caroline; Margaret, Hugh, and Eddie; Katherine, Claire, and Emily; Alexandra and James; and Sarah and Brigid. She is also survived by one sister, Margaret Rose Battafarano, and is predeceased by two brothers, Matthew and Philip.
Services will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church at 558 W. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA 17603. Visitation will begin at 11AM followed by a 12PM Mass conducted by Monsignor Richard A. Youtz. Burial will be at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.

Just wanted to thank Nora…for the wonderful Lancaster Entertains cookbook. Being from an old Lancaster family myself,I often forget the wonderful childhood that this city provided and how it played such a poignant part of my future. Godspeed Nora-Jan Lowell Schaeffer.

What a gracious and joyful woman! Meryl and I were lucky to be her friend. She was such an amazing friend to Ginny! If their is a memorial place to send funds in her honor it would be great to post that information. We send our love and sympathies to all!! Nora and your family are in our prayers.
