Katherine Lea Miller, 26

December 19, 2019

Katherine Lea Miller, 26, late of Manhattan, born and raised in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the evening of Thursday, December 19, 2019 following an accident in New York City.

Katherine was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and was a precious daughter of David and Adrienne Miller and loved sister of Rachel and Elizabeth Miller. She was the beloved fiancé of Manhattan resident Anil Prakash.

Katherine was a strong believer in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, PA and attended Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City. Throughout her entire residency in NYC, Katherine served the homeless in many ways.

Katherine was a talented and beautiful young woman who was full of life and who loved much and was much loved. A magna cum laude graduate of Bucknell University, she was a skilled and hardworking Client Success Manager with Burt Americas Inc, a European marketing tech company.

Katherine found joy in the arts, dance, music and theatre. She studied art and art history in Florence, Italy and led museum tours to share her knowledge and love for art. Katherine was also a talented artist and accomplished photographer who received collegiate awards for her work.

Katherine, known as “Kate”, maintained strong friendships in Lancaster, Bucknell University, and in NYC. She was always the life of the party, which never really got started until she arrived.

Katherine loved spending time with both her birth family and her new family of her beloved fiancé, Anil Prakash. She and Anil were planning a September wedding and he was the true love of her life. A Prakash family member described Kate as a “shooting star” who brought life and light to their family.

Katherine is survived by her fiancée, Anil Prakash of New York City, her parents David and Adrienne Miller of Lancaster, sisters Rachel and Elizabeth, her maternal grandfather and her paternal grandmother, many aunts, uncles and cousins, and her Frenchie, Piper.

A Celebration of Katherine’s life will be held at 1PM on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. Family and friends will be received from 11:30AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Father’s Heart Ministries, 545 E 11th St, New York, NY 10009 where Katherine had served the homeless or Water Street Rescue Mission, 210 S. Prince Street, Lancaster, PA 17603. Arrangements by Charles Snyder Funeral Home, Lancaster, PA.

Condolences to the Family

December 22, 2020

I was so shocked and saddened to read this. I went to Township and graduated with Katherine. Her smile lit up a room, she was optimistic and really loved life. I’m glad I saw her in 2018 before she went home. What a senseless thing to happen to someone who had so much more life to live. Getting to know Katherine for so many years, I can confirm your family raised her well and to care for others. She was almost too good for this world, I think this dark world didn’t deserve her. She was truly a bright light and shining star in it.

To Kate’s family and fiancé, may you find peace in this time of heartbreak knowing that Kate offered all of us the rarest of gifts, her ability to live in the moment with grace and genuine loving kindness and her amazing smile.  I had the great fortune of being one of Kate’s professors at Bucknell University.  She will always be remembered for her passion for the world of art.  She was one of our best and brightest.

My friend David. Losing a son or daughter is one of the worst feeling a father will ever experience.  I  know. My son Kerry died 26 years ago in a very rare auto accident.  He was 25 years old at the time and married…no children.
My prayers go out to you and your family.  I know your pain. I will reach out at a later time.

Dave, Adrienne, Rachel and Elizabeth – as soon as I heard the sad news of Katherine’s passing (at church, two Sundays ago) I began to pray ardently for all of you in your unimaginable sorrow that the Lord Jesus Christ would hold up your bodies, hearts and souls as you traverse this time of transition, disbelief and loss. There is no way to make sense of it with our human understanding, but the Lord had determined so many years ago that he wanted Katherine in heaven with his other loving servants. And as he has promised in the bible, he will take care of each of you and offer you comfort and solice at unexpected times and in unexpected ways. As you travel through the future with her presence only in memory, the Lord Jesus Christ will wrap the Holy Spirit around you and bring back to you the joy she brought to each of you (and her friends)in her special way – she sounds like she was an amazing person. With love and prayers to you now and always…Nancy and Jim Hamill

December 30, 2019

Dear Miller Family,
There are no words to express how deeply saddened and sorry we are for your loss. The two of us got to know Kate at Bucknell in different yet similarly positive ways – she was a magnetic friend, a well-respected Art History colleague and an integral part of the Bison community. We are keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time.
Our heartfelt condolences,
Danielle Agostini and King Gorospe

We are so grateful that Kate was in our lives and we are sending love and kindness to the Millers, Anil Prakash and all of Kate’s friends and family. She will be missed.

Dave, May God bless you and your family. I think I may have met Adrienne once or twice.  I am at a loss for words.  So tragic.  I read the article many times.  I know a lot of people at Westminster and was told the Pastor had a hard time making the announcement.  Just wanted to let you know your family is on the prayer list at my Church (Bird-Hand United Methodist) .  I am sure your faith will get you through this.  My husband died 24 years ago (age 55) and every day something reminds me of him.  You and your family have my sincere condolences.  Enjoyed working with you at BB&T.

My daughter and I were in Soho, NYC and exited a store on Broadway immediately after the accident. We were so upset, we had to have more information. We found out about your beautiful, Katherine. My other daughter is 26 and also named Katherine. We found out that your Katherine was from Lancaster and I am originally from Lancaster. Charles Snyder buried my parents many years ago and I contacted them to get information. We are so very sorry for your loss. We will donate to the Water Street Rescue Mission as you requested. Please know that you, your family and Katherine are in our hearts with love and prayers.

December 25, 2019

My heart is so heavy as write this. Katherine was truly one of the sweetest, kindest students I’ve ever had the pleasure to teach. Perhaps my most enduring memory of our trip to France is of her standing on the stage of an ancient Roman theater renowned for its accoustics, singing a song from the Spring Musical. Many harried tourists stopped rushing around, took a seat, and clapped appreciatively as Katherine shared her lovely voice, brightening their day as she did so many of ours. I wish I had wise words of comfort to share with you all as I know you will have many hard days ahead. Just know that your daughter and fiancée was much loved. You experienced that every day in your family, and I saw it every day in her dealings with teachers, classmates, and friends. Hugs and prayers.
