Martha Bynum, 68

March 15, 2023

Martha Bynum, 68 of Lancaster, went to glory March 15, 2023. She was the third born child to the late Doretha Burch and Julius Hurst in Dublin, GA on May 6, 1954. She attended school in Dodge County until the third grade. At the age of nine, she was adopted by her Uncle J.B. and her Aunt Dora Burch. Moving from Georgia to Pennsylvania was a huge transition for Martha as she became the adopted sister to Beautena Riggins, and later to Derrick and Dina Burch.

She graduated from McCaskey High School and went on to become a certified nurse’s assistant, a career she dedicated 32 years to. Before retirement in 2021, she loved working as a CNA at Conestoga View where she spent her time caring for the sick. She was also employed by the Schick Hair Dryer Corporation in the seventies, where she also became the first in her family to vacation in Hawaii, as part of a company trip.

Martha was a kind and loving person. She spent her time gardening and taking care of her husband Earl Bynum, whom she loved with every bit of her pure heart. Another favorite past time was sitting or hiking with her sister-in-law, Juanita Binder, and having girl-talks. Her bright smile was contagious and radiated the room. She will be dearly missed by those who loved and knew her.

Other than her husband, adoptive brother and sisters, and sister-in-law, she will be missed by her children Robert (Kathy) Hurst (Bobby), Chaque (Jill) Henderson (Chuckie), George Bynum, Earl (Martha) Bynum Jr., Keisha Bynum, and Mickel Bynum. Her sisters Hattie Mobely, Aileen Polluck (Pat), Lizzie Hamilton, and Marilyn Hamilton (Jolly). Her brother James (Joyce) Hamilton (Buster), Grady Hamilton, and Bud Hamilton, her other sister-in-law Janice, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Martha was preceded in passing by mother and father, and her sisters Rosie Lee and Carrie, and brothers Harvey and Clyde Hamilton (Frog).

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
