Grant W. Hummer, 79

Grant W. Hummer, Sr., 79, of Lititz, passed away at his home and entered into his eternal home with the Lord on Sunday, November 19, 2023. Born in Hagerstown, Maryland, Grant was the son of the late Wayne G., Sr. and Ruth (Lenker) Hummer. He was raised in Palmyra, Pennsylvania and graduated from Palmyra High School in 1963. He married Judith G. “Judi” Milakovic on September 25, 1971 and the devoted union lasted until her passing in 2020.
Grant was a distinguished graduate of The Pennsylvania State University’s School of Engineering, earning both a Bachelor’s (’67) and Master’s (’77) degrees. As a Civil Engineer, he enjoyed a career spanning more than 50 years. In 1996 he became one of the founders and owners of ELA Group, Inc., acting as President until he retired in 2020. He left a lasting impact on the professional landscape of the community.
A devout community leader, Grant served as President of the Warwick Education Foundation for many years. His commitment to community service extended to various organizations where he served on the board of many organizations such as the Lancaster YMCA, MS Leadership Council, the Lititz Rec., Lititz Ambucs, the YMBL of Lititz, the LRCDC, the WERT Commission, the Manheim Masonic Lodge 587, the Scottish Rite Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, the Rajah Shriner’s Lodge, Camp Rocky Creek, and Camp Shand. Grant was also instrumental in the Veterans Memorial Park Project.
He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting. He loved boating on the Chesapeake Bay. For over 60 years, he enjoyed vacationing with his family on Chincoteague Island, Virginia. He loved flounder and rock fishing. He was a sports enthusiast and was an unwavering fan of Penn State athletics, the Eagles, and the Phillies. Most of all, he reserved his love for his family.
Grant is survived by his three sons, Grant W. “G.W.” Hummer, Jr., of Virginia Beach, Derek S. Hummer, Sr., of Lititz, Wayne G. Hummer, husband of Kristi, of Lititz, and daughter-in-law Sarah Hummer, of Lititz; four grandchildren, Derek Jr., Corina, Calan, and Emalynn; his brother Wayne G. Hummer, Jr. (husband of Cindy); his sisters Carol Urey and Joan Yiengst and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Judith and granddaughter Lynnley.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, from 3 pm-8 pm with a time of remembrance at 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, with a 10 am visitation followed by an 11 am service at Lititz United Methodist Church 201 Market St., Lititz, PA 17543 with Rev. Jerry McGrath officiating. The interment will be in Brunnerville UMC Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Grant can be made to any of the charities previously mentioned.
