Michael S. Barton, 49

January 08, 2024

Michael S. Barton, 49, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on January 8, 2024, after a difficult battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Mike was born on October 3, 1974, to Clorinda (Clo) Graham (Dirienzo) & Richard (Dick) Barton and raised in West Chester, Pennsylvania. After graduating from West Chester East High School in 1992 he went on to major in Pre-Medicine/Pre-Medical Studies at West Chester University.

After graduation, Mike moved to the Harrisburg area, where he had two wonderful children, Niomi Barton, age 22, and Matteo Barton, age 18. He leaves behind his fiancé Shannon Ergott and her son Ian. Shannon and his children gave Mike their selfless love and devotion, remaining by his side until he lost his battle with ALS. Mike was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family, giving them the life, he felt they deserved. Mike was unendingly proud of his children, and loved his fiancé Shannon very much, always doing his best to support them.

Mike worked within the pharmaceutical industry, most recently as the Division Sales Manager of the Renal-Cardiac Division for AstraZeneca. Mike was very passionate about his work and the people that he worked with. Mike’s passion for health was not only exhibited in his professional life, but also personally. Working out and maintaining physical health was an essential part of his routine.

Mike was not only passionate about working out, but loved anything that could go fast. This included wave runners, motorcycles, and cars. One of Mike’s greatest passions was skiing. Whether it was work or sport, he gave everything his hardest effort and attention. Mike excelled at most things he gave his attention to.

Anyone who knew Mike knew that he was a cherished friend, devoted family man, and respected community member. Mike’s kindness, humor and unwavering support touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth in our hearts. He is survived by his children Niomi and Matteo, his fiancé Shannon, his parents Clorinda and David Graham, Richard and Kathy Barton, and his brother John Barton.

We will remember him for the many years he lived a happy and healthy life and all the good times we shared. May he rest in peace.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honor to the ALS United Mid Atlantic. ALS United Mid Atlantic focuses on compassionate care programs and groundbreaking research to support patients and their families.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 12:00pm with Service beginning at 12pm.

Condolences to the Family

I was very sad to hear of Mike’s passing. ALS is such a dreadful disease because Mike was someone who truly loved to live!  He was too young and it was way too soon.  Mike was genuine and thought of the best interests of those with whom he associated.  I extend my condolences and prayers to his family and loved ones.  Rest in Peace Mike.

My deepest condolences to all of Mike’s family and friends. Mike and I first became friends in 7th grade. We were inseparable for about 2 years. When he moved from Summit House we eventually grew apart but reconnected through Facebook over the last 10 years and I got a chance to see him at Buster’s funeral. We kept in touch after that and I had no idea he was suffering. We talked about getting together and never got a chance to, but I can tell you that Mike was a genuinely good guy with a great sense of humor, and he will be truly missed. I’m sorry I never got to hang with my childhood friend one last time!  🙏🏼❤️

To the Barton family, I am so sorry for your loss. I only knew Mike briefly as we trained together at St Jude Medical, but I certainly thought very highly of him. He was so lovely during our few weeks of intense training, and always had kind words to say. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

I was so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. I met Mike at Aztrazeneca while we were both District Managers. Early on I didn’t know him well, but for whatever reason he called me up one day and we chatted for a long time. Not sure why this dude from Harrisburg, PA enjoyed talking to a hick like me from Oklahoma, but it I’m glad he did. We would talk every few weeks and I always enjoyed our conversations. Never once did he fail to make me laugh. What a great guy, I feel honored to have known him. RIP my friend.

Mike and I worked together back around 2010-2012. He and I kept in touch over the years busting each others balls, talking about sports med sales, or our kids… we had a lot in common.  Mike was a loyal friend and someone I could count on for honest word and helping hand. We had some good laughs and rowdy times my friend.  You will be missed until I see you again… cheers 🍻
