Donald W. “Don” Hershey, 90
January 24, 2024
Donald W. “Don” Hershey of Lititz and formally of Conestoga passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 one week after his 90th birthday. He was the son of the late Melvin Hershey and Edna (Becher) Hershey. Don was the husband of the late Miriam (Miller) Hershey who passed away on May 31, 2021. They had celebrated 67 years of marriage before her passing.
Don was employed as an electrician for many years, the last few years for B.J. Baldwin Electric, retiring in 1997. After formally retiring, he still had many people calling him for help with building or electrical work or fixing their vehicle. Not being one to sit around, he was always working at something. There was always a car in his garage that he was working on.
Don loved to travel to see new places and he loved riding trains. He took his family on their first camping trip to Yellowstone National Park. Don’s other joy in life was gospel music, whether he was singing or listening to a gospel quartet. He attended several National Quartet Conventions in Kentucky and Tennessee. In his earlier years, he sang in several quartets or trios in church and around Lancaster County.
Don devoted several hours over many years serving with Mennonite Disaster Service serving along with Mim in Canada and throughout the US. They made many friends in each assignment.
Don is survived by 4 daughters: Christine Doughty (Rob) of Leola; Colleen Brubaker of Landisville; Julia Arndt (Dennis) of Ellwood City; and Donna Miller (Daryl) of Beaver Falls. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren: Noah Doughty, Joshua Doughty, Samantha Martin (Jeremy), Daniel Brubaker, Heather Benton (Na’im), Sarah Diaz (Jon), Johnathan Arndt (Liz), Joel Lehman, and Devon Miller (Katie); and 9 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Community Church of Willow Street, 212 Peach Bottom Road, Willow Street, PA. 17584 on Saturday April 13, 2024 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Don’s memory may be made to Grace Community Church of Willow Street or to Water Street Rescue Mission, 210 South Prince Street, Lancaster, PA.

“You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works;” James 2:22 My friend Don is a friend of God! And his friendship with God reached out and touched me. In this life, we need good friends and Don and I became very good friends. We enjoyed sweet fellowship and many good times together. I will never forget him! He was never too busy to help someone. He tended my garden when I was away on a trip. He also used his electrical knowledge to help a friend of mine who had a dangling fixture in her bathroom. Don never really retired! He was full of life and loved people. We helped each other to not feel so lonely. Don is my forever friend! I will miss him but I know I will see him again! I am sure Jesus carried him gently, lovingly in His arms! May God bless and comfort his loving family who will also never forget Don’s godly legacy and life. Reva
