Beatriz Verastegui, 99
February 23, 2024
Beatriz Verastegui (Betty), 99, passed away on February 20, 2024. Born in Mexico in 1924. Beatriz was preceded in death by her loving spouse, Nicolas, and is survived by her three children, Marti (Allan), Checo and Letty; her three grandchildren, Rick (Angelica), Geoff (Courtney) and Andy (Lydia); and her great-grandchildren, Lila and Oliver.
Betty lived through so much; a life of hard work and responsibilities taken on too soon. The eldest daughter of Carmen and Samuel. Sibling to three brothers and six sisters. In her youth, working odd jobs to bring food to the table but also attending school, enjoying biking, volleyball and picnics in the park. In the 40’s, locking eyes across a dance floor, she met a handsome cadet at a military ballroom dance who wooed her, and became her life partner and spouse. In the 50’s, she came to the U.S., moving to Chicago to further opportunities for the family and provide education to her children. In the 60’s, to assist her spouse, she entered the workforce finding her niche making delicious salads and desserts for the infirm. In the 70’s, although working a full-time job, she adored caring for her affectionate first-born grandson whenever she could. Betty loved to cook and hosted many gatherings where our extended family enjoyed her tasty traditional Mexican cuisine, while sharing laughter and stories. She loved to converse, make new friends and travel too. After retiring in the 90s, Betty and Nicolas moved to their dream home in Lancaster, enjoying the company of her twin grandsons and great-grandchildren. Beatriz and Nicolas remained together until his passing in 2014. Deeply spiritual, she often contemplated her purpose in life and spent many hours in prayer.

Condolences to the Family
February 24, 2024
I had the privilege to enjoy Beatriz’s love and friendship for many years along with my family. She became a dear spiritual mother to me and a guardian angel for my two daughters, even caregiving for them during my working hours during their childhood. Our friendship began during our days together participating in one of St. Mary’s small faith communities studying the Bible together. She was reserved and quiet at the beginning, but later grew in confidence sharing her charming personality and deep spiritual faith with the entire group. She loved her family and enjoyed visiting her friends even if in far away lands. Our friendship and visits continued even after our relocation which allowed her to visit and teach my kids to cook her delicious Mexican Spanish rice. I will not forget her bakery working days stories and talents, which she shared often especially during Lent treating our group to her soft and yummy cross-buns.
Betty kept herself in top spiritual and physical health, even biking at home in her late years. Her faith, energy, determination, healthy herbs garden and lifestyle have been very inspirational for my family. My dear spiritual mother will be missed, but I know we have a powerful sweet intercessor and advocate in the heavenly spheres with Jesus and Mary.
Thank you Marti, Letti, Allan and Sergio for being loving children and for sharing your mom with us!
