I met Ruth for only 5 minutes 30 or 40 years ago, but what I have to tell you speaks of her character. I was having dinner guests, who were to arrive in about 2 hrs, one hot Saturday afternoon. I met Ruth by chance in front of an almost empty lettuce section at SKH and when she saw my dismay, she approached me as a total stranger and asked me if I had certain specific items at home. When I said yes, she gave me her phone number and told me to call her when I got home. True to her word, she read me her recipe over the phone. I entered it in my cookbook as “Ruth Morehead’s Salad”. It is not only my favorite recipe, but I think of her every time I have it (which was yesterday). A 5 minute encounter from an observant, caring woman lead to a lifetime of gratitude for her kindness. I admire her and am grateful to such a caring person as Ruth.
