Vernon E. Howe

Vernon E. Howe, 88, of Brethren Village, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024. Born in Honey Brook, he was the son of the late R. Raymond and Effie M. (Welsh) Howe. Vernon was the husband of Joan L. (Linton) Howe, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage.

A1954 graduate of Solanco High School, Vernon went on to proudly serve in the US Marine Corps. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for Williams Corporation, formerly Transcontinental Gas Pipeline, where he worked as an administrative assistant until his retirement.

Of the Protestant Faith, Vernon belonged to Nickel Mines Gun Club. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and tending to his vegetable garden. He especially loved going to Dagsboro, DE, where he would boat, fish, and crab. In his younger years, Vernon was skilled in dart throwing competitions. He enjoyed eating ice cream Sundaes and making his own wine. Vernon was a true family man who loved and cared for his wife and relished the times spent with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Joan, Vernon is survived by his daughters: Danielle Ball, of Gap, Dawn Hill, of Honeybrook, Cherie Schast, of Honeybrook, and Kimberly Charlton, of Independence, KY; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild; and four sisters. He was preceded in death in 1983 by his son, Gregory Hill.
