John E. Beck, 83

July 27, 2024

John J. Beck, Sr., 83, passed away at his Manheim Township home on Saturday, July 27, 2024. John shared over 35 years with his devoted fiancée Phyllis Yurchak.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Ernest A. and Dorothy (Rucker) Beck. After graduating from West Catholic High School in 1958, he earned his B.S. in Business Administration from LaSalle University in 1963. An avid sports fan, he excelled at basketball playing on his high school championship team and college team.

During college John served in the Army Reserves as a medical specialist, engineer, and heavy equipment operator. Upon graduating he became a professional accountant working for Weyerhaeuser Forest Products in New Bern, NC then High Industries, Wissler Motors, and Lancaster Lincoln Mercury in Lancaster, PA, before retiring.

A parishioner of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, John volunteered on various committees, and served as a Fourth Degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus, Lancaster Council 12532.

He volunteered as a board member of Kissel Hill Commons Association and at his second home in Calabash, NC on the Condo Association, always engaged in serving those around him.

John cherished time with his grandchildren and going on road trips with them. Often found with a Manhattan in hand enjoying country music, he possessed a vibrant passion for music, dancing, and sports. An early riser, he loved to walk on Sunset Beach and uplifted people with his warmth, welcoming manner and good humor.

In addition to Phyllis, John’s family includes his son, John J. Beck, Jr. (Elisse) of Lititz, daughter Lori Donovan of Washington, DC, son Timothy Beck (Amy) of Lebanon, grandchildren, Tyler, Josh, and Ethan Beck, Liam and Jack Donovan, Cameron, Olivia, Elizabeth, and Emily Beck, his brothers, Ernie Beck (Betty) of Broomall, James Beck (Beth) of West Chester, and Phyllis’s children, John Yurchak (Nancy) of Leola, Jason Yurchak (Jill) of Landisville, and Jennifer Landis (Mike) of Lancaster; and her 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by two sisters, Sister Dorothy T. Beck, acj, and Miriam Zimmer.

John’s family will receive guests from 10 to 11 am, followed by the Funeral Liturgy with The Rev. Norbert Soresh officiating at 11 am on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Military Honors and Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Honor Guard will be provided.

Condolences to the Family

October 19, 2024

John was a good friend as well as an excellent athlete and gentleman. He always had a warmth of feeling for everyone, and is missed by all who had the benefit of knowing him. I remember when he was a young boy & started to come to Mitchell Schoolyard to play ball. One could tell he was going to be a real player.
My heartfelt condolences to John’s Family for their great loss! Francis J. Mcgovern

My sincere condolences to John Beck’s family at their loss. I worked at High with John and always enjoyed his company. I also bought a vehicle at Wisslers when he was there. John attended some of the High retiree breakfasts that I attended as well.  I’ll very sorry for your loss and I’ll miss him. God rest his soul!

I have many fond memories of spending time with Mr. Beck from my younger years. From all the times, he supported us at basketball games and going on a white water rafting trip with Lori and my dad. And as an adult, whenever I would see him in the neighborhood, he always had a smile on his face. I’m so sad to hear of his passing and pass along my prayers for comfort and support. I hope that sharing all the memories brings you much comfort.

He was a true gentleman with a kind heart.  I’ll never forget how kind he was to me and my son when I met him about 15 years ago.  May he rest in peace.
