Donald P. Palmer, Sr.

December 06, 2024

Donald P. Palmer, Sr., beloved husband of 58 years to Martha A. Palmer of Ronks, passed away on December 6, 2024.

He was born in Yonkers, NY to the late Paul and Freida (Rollwagen) Palmer.

He was a graduate of Lafayette College where he was a brother in the Chi Phi fraternity and earned a Bachelors in Economics. He also graduated from Penn State University with a Masters in Business Administration. He was commissioned as a 2nd LT in the Army upon graduation from Lafayette, completed basic training at Fort Benning, GA and served 2 years active duty at Fort Polk, Louisiana as a Range Officer. He was discharged in 1966 as a 1st LT.

On leaving the service, he was employed by RCA/BURLE Lancaster for 37 years, retiring from BURLE Industries in 2003 as Materials Manager.

Don enjoyed tending his two large vegetable gardens, hunting, fishing, and spending time at the hunting camp, Sand Flat, in Clearfield County. Most of all, he loved God, his country, his family and friends, was a true gentleman, and just an all-around good guy.

He was a devout Christian, being a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Neffsville.

Don is survived by his wife, Martha, his daughter Elizabeth Bennett of Lititz, his son Donald Jr. married to Karen Palmer of Lancaster; two grandsons Keeler and Palmer Bennett, and three step grandsons Aaron, Jacob, and Collin Cerny. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Alice and Perry Burns, Ida and Wayne Boling, Hall Williams, John and Ramona Williams, and Arthur and Allison Williams.

A Memorial Service will be held at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 308 Petersburg Rd., Lititz, PA 17543 on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 11AM. Friends will be received by Don’s family at the church from 10-11AM. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his memory to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church at the above address.

Martha, Beth and Don
Saddened to learn of the passing of your husband and dad.  I would see him occasionally when I picked up Beth for nursery school back in the early 1970s and used to see Martha at the dermatologist’s office in Willow Street.  I hope he didn’t suffer in pain before he went to meet his Saviour, but, if he did, he is now pain free.  Praying for comfort in the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Beverly Martin

Martha, Elizabeth and Donald-your husband and father was a true gentleman. A friendly guy with a quick smile. His love for God was evident in the way he worked and treated his family and friends.
