Harriette E. Carlough, 90

Harriette Elizabeth Carlough (nee Mauermeyer) of Willow Street, PA passed away on Wednesday December 18, 2024.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA with a celebration afterwards at Willow Valley Manor North – Johnson Auditorium, 600 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA

Harriette was born on October 9, 1934, in Rutherford, NJ, the daughter of George and Thelma (Garratt) Mauermeyer. She Married William W. Carlough, jr. in February 1960 at St. Mary’s in Rutherford, NJ. They had three children, William, Karen and Craig. Harriette had a long loving partnership with Lewis Ofsevit.

Harriette graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Rutherford after which she completed Nursing School at St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, NJ. Harriette then went on to St. Louis University and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. As an RN, she worked extensively as a floor nurse in several hospitals over the years as well as teaching at St. Joseph’s in Passaic. Harriette later earned her teaching degree and became a school nurse and high school health teacher. She then became a Vocational Nursing instructor in Elizabeth.

Harriette was a lifelong, faithful, practicing Catholic. She was an avid painter, Illustrator, loved gardening, building several floral and vegetable gardens at her homes. Harriette was also very active in the Girl Scouts for many years both as a scout and as an adult leader. Harriette will be remembered for the love she shared with family and friends. This was often exhibited at the gatherings she hosted cooking wonderful meals and treats.

Survivors include her children William (Laura) Carlough, Blue Grass, IA, Karen Carlough, and Craig (Heather) Carlough, Lancaster, PA. A granddaughter and great-granddaughter. Brothers Henry (Carol) Mauermeyer and James Mauermeyer, Lancaster, PA. Sisters Babette (Donald) Sabia, Ft. Mill, SC, and Jeanne Mauermeyer, Barnegat, NJ. Alice (Eric) Thomas, Whipany, NJ and her children. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Leonard and partner, Lew.

Contributions in Harriette’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
