Walter “Mick” Greineder, 76

February 16, 2025

Walter “Mick” Greineder, 76, of Lancaster, passed away on February 16, 2025 in his home with his wife and children by his side after a brief bout with aggressive cancer. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Michael and Pearl (Deaver) Greineder. He was married to Linda (Musser) Greineder for 56 years.

Mick was a 1966 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School (LCHS), where he excelled in football and track (co-captain) and met his future wife. He majored in Mechanical Engineering at Penn State and worked for 28 years, until his retirement, at High Industries, Inc., excelling in various roles including as Plant Engineer at company headquarters in Lancaster and in Williamsport. At High Steel, he was relied on for his versatility; including as a people leader, a patent inventor, an efficiency and safety expert, and, at times, a skilled conflict negotiator. Mick was passionate about the game of football, especially Penn State, technology, the environment, deer hunting, and intensely supported the pursuits of his loved ones. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a very organized and resourceful approach to life. He was a 50-year member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and more recently attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

Those who knew Mick will remember him for his servant’s heart, always willing to lend a hand to someone in need, while quick to deny any attempts to pay him back. He could fix just about anything, taking great pride in that, and was to many of his friends the go-to handyman and computer guru. He was a 3rd Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus Council 867 and its past Pro-Life Chairman; and served on many committees, including the LCHS Athletics Hall of Honor and annual carnival.

In addition to his wife Linda, Mick is survived by 2 children: Karen Weigle and Todd Greineder (Kerri); 5 grandchildren: Carson Weigle, Braden Movassaghi, Valentina Movassaghi, Claire Greineder, and Christian Greineder; and many cousins.

The family will receive guests from 6-8 PM on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. A Rosary will be held at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 558 W. Walnut St, Lancaster, PA 17603. The family will receive guests beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be private. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made in Mick’s name to A Woman’s Concern, Off The Streets, or Lancaster Catholic High School.

Linda and Family,  I just saw Mick died.  I worked for High Steel in the Fabrication Office for several years many, many years ago and got to know Mick as he would stop in and discuss work with the guys.  I even remember him talking about you.  He was such a great guy.  You have my deepest sympathy.
