William “Bill” Bowie, 91

April 18, 1933 - March 22, 2025

William (Bill) Bowie, 91, of Lititz, PA. passed away peacefully at home into the presence of Jesus on March 22, 2025, surrounded by family. A cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Bill will be missed by those who knew him.

Bill was born on Staten Island, NY on April 18, 1933, to parents William Bowie and Mary Prentice Bowie. He married Alice Wedel Bowie on July 2, 1960, and they shared nearly 65 wonderful years of marriage.

In 1950 during the Korean War, Bill enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was a graduate of Curtis High School and Pace University in New York City.

Bill began his professional career in 1955 with Colgate Palmolive Co. in Jersey City, NJ. rising through the ranks in various positions. He was in charge of Colgate’s warehousing and distribution operations when the plant closed in 1988. Bill then spent a decade as President of Products Distribution, Inc. in NJ retiring in 1998.

Bill had a friendly outgoing personality and great sense of humor. He attended Lancaster Church of the Nazarene, played softball with the Manheim Township Senior Softball League, and enjoyed spending his retirement golfing with friends at Bent Creek Country Club. He was proud of his Scottish heritage, was an avid reader, partial to Slim Whitman’s music, the New York Yankees, Famous Grouse, and a good hot dog.

Bill’s greatest legacy was his loving family, his beloved wife Alice, daughters Nancy Mulhearn (husband Joe) and Karen Butterworth (husband Ray), grandchildren Alex Mulhearn (wife Heather), Erica Hower (husband Jon), Marissa Mulhearn, Prentice Butterworth, great granddaughter Margaux Willa Mulhearn and a host of extended family. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Andrew Bowie, husband of Ursula Bowie.

Bill’s family will receive friends on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 1-4 pm at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543, with a private service scheduled at a future date.

Alice and family,
I was saddened to learn of Bill’s passing. Many fond memories of golfing with Bill in the Purple Gang and the originator of the Low Flyers drink! I especially enjoyed how Bill would pop into our annual office Christmas party in the library room at Bent Creek and entertain our entire group! Praying for Bill’s eternal rest in peace as well as comfort for everyone as you fondly recall the cherished memories of this wonderful man!!

I always felt better after an evening and a cigar with Bill. Great sense of humor and endless stories of the Navy, work, and Slim!

What a true gentleman to I had the extreme privilege to know. His love for life was only surpassed by his love of Bill’s wife Alice and his family. Sharing a Navy story as well as a cigar was not only special, it was an event. RIP Bill.
