Margaret K. Bucher, 86
Margaret K. Bucher, 86, of Rock Hill Road, Millersville died Tuesday, February 14, after a short illness. She was the wife of David B. Bucher, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1981.
Born in Coaldale, Schuylkill County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Rachko Kutcher.
After graduating from Coaldale H.S. in 1936, she worked in Harrisburg in the Department of Labor. During WWII, she worked in the private sector for firms constructing military depots in the state and later for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
A longtime Lancaster resident, she was active in politics and served as a 6th Ward Republican Committee Woman. She was also employed in the City Treasurer’s Office during the 1960s.
She moved to her current home in 1968 and became a familiar sight to passers-by as she walked extensively on the nearby roads. Peg’s neighbors bestowed on her the affectionate title “Mayor of Rock Hill Road” since she volunteered, during her rounds, to check on homes, feed pets and water plants and shrubs for vacationers.
Mrs. Bucher is survived by a daughter, Karen Bucher, of Brattleboro, VT, a son, David Bucher, Jr., of Lititz, husband of Mary Lou Bucher, one grandson, Colin Bucher, Arlington, VA, husband of Nicole Joseph, and a sister, Agnes Strohmeyer, formerly of Lancaster, now living in Louisville, KY. Two siblings, Helen Miller of Emmaus and Joseph Kutcher, Jr. of Tamaqua, preceded her.
A drop-in Remembrance Reception for Peg Bucher will be held on Saturday, March 4, from 1-4 PM in the Old Main Room of the Bolger Conference Center in Millersville University’s Gordinier Hall. Neighbors, friends and relatives are invited to visit with the immediate family and share memories of this wonderful and unusual woman. Kindly omit flowers. Contributions, if offered, may go to the Hospice of Lancaster County.
