Anthony J. Allen, 86

Anthony J. Allen, 86 of Wrightsville, PA, died at home Thursday, February 20, 2025, with his wife by his side.
Anthony was born in Altoona, PA and was the son of the late Edmund Allen and Clorinda Allen (Peduto). He graduated from Altoona Catholic High School in 1956 before pursuing higher education at Thaddeus Stevens College. He worked as an electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over 50 years. Anthony was on the Lancaster Township Planning Commission for 12 years and served as a member of the Board of Supervisors for Lancaster Township from 1992-2009. He was a faithful member of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish in Lancaster City where he had been an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Anthony was a part-time employee at Cherry Hill Orchards for over 50 years. After retirement, he was a driver for Friendly Limousine Service.
Anthony, often referred to as Tony, loved spending time in the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved participating in local politics and traveling with friends and family.
Anthony is survived by his loving wife, Thelma. He will be sorely missed by his sisters Ann Schrieber, Rose Boito, and Virginia Graham and their children. He leaves behind stepchildren including Annette Cook (Eric), Matthew Rineer (Patricia), Adam Bonanno (Carrie), Nadine Fredo (Scott), and Katie Dennes (Joseph) as well as 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Ellingswood Allen of Lancaster and his niece, Lynn Schrieber.
Friends and family are invited to Saint Anthony Padua Parish on Wednesday, February 26th to a viewing at 10:00 AM with Mass of Christian Burial starting at 11 AM, Fr. Matthew Morelli as celebrant. Interment will follow at a later date in Altoona, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Saint Anthony Padua Parish at 501 East Orange St. Lancaster.

My heartfelt sympathy to Thelma and the family. Tony had a great laugh. I’ll miss sharing our conservative views and our next trip to Shady Maple. He was a gentleman and a scholar, and will be sorely missed.

My sympathy to the family of Anthony Allen. As children, on Mosser Street in Altoona, we grew up together. I cherish our years with Anthony and his sisters, his Mom and Dad. The Coughenour’s are forever grateful to the the kindness of the entire Allen family. Rest in Peace, Anthony
