Abram K. “Abe” Harnish, 80
August 26, 2023
Abram K. “Abe” Harnish, 80, of Millersville passed away peacefully Saturday, August 26th, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Willow Street, PA, he was the son of the late Jacob and Fannie (Keeport) Harnish, and the loving husband of Sue (Dagen) Harnish, with whom he shared over 61 years of marriage.
Abram means ‘exalted father’, and that he was! He was the greatest man his family ever knew because he spent his life walking with THE Exalted Father. His Heavenly Father shined through him brightly and made Abe the unshakeable foundation upon which a beautiful family legacy of love and unity was built. To his wife and daughters, he was the steady rock of stability. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was pure delight. He was a wealth of practical wisdom; a gentle guiding light; and the quiet, yet mischievous, charm of his family. He was a man of great integrity and was respected by all who knew him. He was – and ever will be – adored.
In 2021 Abe retired from GFI Transport as an Owner/Operator. Prior to driving truck, he owned and operated a chicken farm where the family produced and transported eggs. Abe also operated a Farm Packer repair service where he helped many of the local farmers in their times of need.
In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Harley with his wife and friends, hunting, delivering food with Meals-on-Wheels, working on projects, spending time with his family and friends and playing games. He also enjoyed helping his Church and the church family any time he could.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 daughters: Tonia Shultz (Nelson) of Willow Street, PA; Tami Shearer (Richard) of Washington Boro, PA; Tricia Wilt (Doug) of Duncannon, PA; Tara Papavasilion (John) of Washington Boro, PA; 8 grandchildren: Amanda Clare; Korte Shearer; Matthew Shultz; Cassandra Carpenter; Amber Harnish; Jeffrey Harnish; William Papavasilion; Suzie Papavasilion, and 6 great-grandchildren: Andrea Clare; Wyatt Clare; Lilyanna Clare; Blaze Harnish; Aurora Carpenter; Autumn Carpenter. Abe is also survived by his sister Emma Hart of Mount Joy, PA and his brother Jacob Harnish (Jane) of Lancaster, PA.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Pequea Church, 40 Church Rd, Lancaster, PA 17603. Family and friends will be received from 10-11 AM at the church on Saturday and the family invites you to join them for a luncheon immediately following the service to share your memories of Abe. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Abe’s memory may be made to Compassus Hospice, 2101 Oregon Pike, Suite 301, Lancaster, PA 17601, or Gospel Light Baptist Church, 129 Slackwater Rd, Millersville, PA 17551.

It is with deepest sympathy for the family on the loss of your Husband, Father, Grandfather, Greatgrandfather and our friend Abe who in my 20 years of part time driving for GFI I had come to enjoy our short periods of conversation and jesting!
Prayers for the family to keep all those good memories alive and some great day we shall meet again!
