Adele L. Slavin, 100
March 17, 2016
Mrs. Adele L. Slavin went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 17, 2016, after being a patient in Health Care at Landis Homes in Lititz, PA.
Adele was born on September 21, 1915 in Steelton, PA to Edward J. and Martha Lescure. She was born again as a teenager in Fairview Baptist Church of Fairview, NJ. She was an example of God’s character to all she met. Adele graduated in 1939 from Philadelphia School of the Bible. After she married the late Rev. George H. Slavin, she used her faith and talents to help her husband serve four different churches: National Park Baptist Church, Maple Shade Baptist, Faith Community Church in Roslyn, PA, and Highland Park Baptist Church in Southfield, MI. She will be remembered as a Sunday school teacher, Bible Study leader, a thoughtful hostess, and a wise mentor to many. She will also be remembered as a wearer of many beautiful hats.
But she was also a loving, caring mother to her four children: Joanna Scheide, wife of Dr. Charles Scheide of Hickory, NC; and Judith A. Slavin, Joy A. Slavin, and Jeremy A. Slavin, all of Manheim, PA. Included in her expanded family was Marge “Jamie” Scanlin of Manheim. She was a thoughtful and active grandparent to Mrs. Christine Tonielli and Chuck and George Scheide. In her last years, she had the enjoyment of time spent with her great grandchild, Max Scheide.
She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Lescure. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jeanne Hess of Horsham, PA. She seriously took her role as “Aunt Adele” to many nieces and nephews, and their offspring. She rejoiced with their accomplishments and hurt with their hurts.
Throughout her life, Adele was a faithful servant to God. She spent time each day in prayer for her family, her churches, and for missionary friends around the world. Her loving spirit will be missed.
Below is a poem by her deceased husband, George Slavin.
THE LORD WAS HER SHEPHERD
The Lord was her Shepherd, He led her aright.
He ransomed her soul from sin’s darkest night.
He fed her in pastures of tenderest grass:
He hid her, her Refuge, ‘til tempests were past.
The Lord was her light, she had then no fear.
Life’s valleys were dark, but her Shepherd was near.
Contented, she trusted Him, though death’s vale is deep.
Faith closed her eyes, and softly she sleeps.
The Lord was her Shepherd. She goes not alone.
He who led her in life has taken her home.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Rd, Roslyn, PA with Rev. Dr. William Krewson officiating.
Kindly omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Benevolent Fund of Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz, PA 17543.
