Alberta Helen Novick Killian
Alberta Helen Novick Killian, born in Plymouth, PA to the late Frank and Stella Novick who both passed in December of 1984. She was the beloved wife to Theodore J. Killian, Sr. with whom she shared 75 years of marriage.
Alberta was educated in Plymouth Borough Schools and graduated from Plymouth High School. Alberta received her Bachelor of Science degree from Bucknell University and did her graduate work at Wilkes University.
Alberta taught school at Plymouth High School and was a substitute teacher at Wyoming Valley West Schools and the Crestwood High School at Mountain Top, PA. She was a member of the Plymouth Women’s Civic Club. As a past president she organized the Plymouth Wheelchair Club. She was a member of Wyoming Valley Art League, St. Jude Altar and Rosary Society, St. Jude Social Club and Nuangola Art Group.
During her lifetime, Alberta traveled extensively with her husband, Ted. They enjoyed many trips to Florida to visit her daughter and family. They also traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, England and Italy as well as toured many countries in Europe. They vacationed on all major cruise lines.
Alberta was an avid gardener and prolific artist. Many of her award-winning paintings are displayed in her children’s homes.
She is survived by her husband, Theodore J. Killian, a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel and Wyoming Valley West teacher; her children, Richard R. Killian and wife Marie of Lancaster, PA and daughter Coleen Hoffman and husband Charles Hoffman; 5 grandchildren: Kevin, Eric and Laura Killian, Karine Hoffman-Reynolds and Alexander Hoffman as well as 4 great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law Marybeth Korutz Killian, widow of Teddy Killian.
She was preceded in death by her devoted son Theodore “Teddy” F. Killian, who passed the previous day.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at St. Jude Parish, 420 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top, PA 18707. Family and friends will be received from 10AM until 11AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Nativity/All Saints Cemetery, 12 Prospect St., Plymouth, PA 18651.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Church of Mountain Top, address above.
