Alexandra Michalopoulos, 86
August 13, 2017
Alexandra Michalopoulos, 86, died peacefully in the comfort of her home. She was lovingly surrounded by family in the last moments of her life on August 13, 2017. Born in Neochori, Nafpaktias, Greece, in 1931, she immigrated to America at the age of 23 to live with her sister in Hanover, PA. There she met the love of her life, Panos, whom she married in 1956, and settled in Lancaster, PA.
Alexandra was a faithful member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. She taught Sunday School, was a committed member of the Daughters of Penelope and a devoted volunteer at the annual Greek Food Bazaar. Known as a gourmet cook to her family and friends, Alexandra was a committed homemaker. As an avid gardener, she had deep admiration for natural beauty in the world. She was a gentle soul who gave unconditional love and lived selflessly.
Alexandra was the daughter of Yanni and Eleni Kotsalos. She is survived by Panos, her devoted husband of sixty years, and her two children, Martha Diamantoni, wife of James Diamantoni, Lancaster, PA, and her son Matthew Michalopoulos, husband of Rebecca Veronis Michalopoulos, Summit, NJ. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Stephen Natale, Alexandra Diamantoni, Pari, Peter and Sophia Michalopoulos.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, August 16th at 10 o’clock am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Avenue, Lancaster, PA. Father Hector Firoglanis and Father Alexander Veronis will be the officiating priests. Viewing times are as follows: Tuesday evening at the Annunciation Church 6-8 pm, a Trisagion Service will be held at 7pm, and Wednesday 9-10 am. Interment will be held at Conestoga Memorial Park. MY name is Debra Fisher Auman. My parents are Ken & Millie Fisher. I remember your dear wife/mother who used to sometimes take care of me on N Cherry St when my mom had to run errands. She would let me wear her beautiful shoes and made me a few Barbie doll clothes which I still have and cherish. I remember also her wonderful Greek food as she introduced me to the flavorful delights of baklava, feta cheese and Greek spaghetti with black olives. Oh my they are still some of my favorite foods. I tried to see her last Nov at the Greek Festival but she had just left. So sad as now she is gone along with my mom who passed in Dec. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Panos, we never really got to see you a whole lot as you were always painting bridges I think but I do remember your wonderful black hair. My mom loved Alex as another sister and now they are reunited. God bless you all with peace
