Andy was an Angel on Earth. He will be missed terribly. Our family “adopted” him way back in the 60’s when both my Mother and my Aunts would travel between PA and NY on Amtrak. There will never be another human as giving and living as this man. May he R. I. P. and him memory be a blessing. -Barry Pearl and Family

When I became a member (and later President) of the United States Naval Training Center Bainbridge, I was greeted by a man in a Navy Uniform!  WOW! What a surprise at that meeting.  That man, of course, was Andy; And what a blessingthe Museum had in him.  I couldn’t possible thank him for all of his many kindnesses, dedication and hard work on behalf of the Museum.  In addition, we were all blessed to have know and worked with such a kind and wonderful example he set for the US Navy et al.

I met Andy at Bridgeport Restaurant five years ago. As I talked to him and got to know him we became good friends. Andy was so caring to everyone he met and always gave me hearts which I have for every holiday. Andy liked to go to the casino and last year my daughter Misty who lives in Savannah Georgia came with us. Andy told her he really wanted to go there on the train. My daughter has air B&B  so I took Andy on the train to Savannah and we stayed at a different house every other day. Andy loved the train trip and got to eat at Paula Dean’s restaurant. That was last May, since then Andy and I became best of friends playing his favorite game and learning how to make hearts. We would sit for hours making hearts. I promised Andy I would carry on his heart making and spread Andy’s hearts around. Andy I will always love and miss you. Your friend Carlyn (to Andy I was Carla)

To the #1 Man in my life! My heart is broken! You were there for me from the day I was born! You never had any children, but YOU were a “Dad” to me! We were together all our lives, just hanging out, visiting, travelling around the world together, always having fun in whatever we did! We truly loved each other and never had a cross word in 74 years! I will see you again one day in Heaven and we will continue our journey with Jesus throughout eternity! I love you with all my heart!❤️🙏❤️Your niece, Arlene

I met Andy when I moved into our apartment complex neighborhood Aug 2008. It has been a pleasure knowing this generous, outgoing, fun loving, knowledgeable person and awesome cook. The “Mayor of Cedar Acres will definitely be missed by those that knew him. He lived his life to the utmost of his ability – not letting anything get in his way. He was always willing to help anyone that needed it. As most knew, he picked on me so badly and quite often said I had strong enough shoulders to handle his criticism. He had many many stories and photos of his life travels and I will miss those stories. His looked forward to daily visits from his friends and neighbors to get him through the rough days – he was well cared for. My heart is broken but he is now at peace in a much better place. Andy, May you can continue on your travels and Forever Rest In Peace.

The day Andy Murphy moved in to the apartment above mine at Cedar Acres, both our lives changed forever. His personality, sense of humor, patriotism, and ability to cook a pot of chili, or chicken corn soup was superb! And the places we went to eat, Katie’s Kitchen, DJ’s 50’s Diner, Park City Diner, Alice’s, and of course the Bridgeport Family Diner, he was a treat! He liked music and would come to the Corner Coffee Shop in Smucker Village in Intercourse, Pa to see me perform with my musician friend as The Harmony Brothers. He’d invite his friends from the Bridgeport Family Diner along. He was the unofficial Mayor of Bridgeport. Everybody knew him and loved him. What a character! God, could he charm the ladies! Must have been that smile! Of course, they loved him when he wore his Navy whites! We watched out for each other. Andy was the personal gardener keeping the front of the building where we lived colorful in flowers. I am going to miss him. Andy, you’ve earned your wings. May you Rest in Peace my friend.

Andy had such a hardy laugh and always showed real interest in what was going on in your life. We all enjoyed hearing about his travels and getting his famous Christmas letter. We really enjoyed our last visit with him in December and got to see the things he cherished. We are honored to have one of his famous self sewn hearts which he made up to his final hours. We will miss his loving sweet soul and his dedication to the naval service. Rest In Peace , Andy – We Love You💕The Chuprinsky Family

Uncle Bud was the sweeties person I have ever met.  I will think of you every time I hang one of the hearts you made for me.  Sorry we never got to take our train trip.

February 15, 2023

Although I only knew Uncle Bud for a few short years he was a very kind and giving man. He loved to sew, so he made me cabinet door hangers for summer and Christmas. He would send me cards for holidays and for when my husband was sick and when he passed away. He was a thoughtful and kind man. I will miss him.  Vicki Tandy
