Angel Luis Suliveras, 70

March 09, 2025

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Angel Luis Suliveras, 70, on Sunday March 9, 2025, at his home. Angel was born in October 1954, in Guayama, Puerto Rico, to the late Blas and Agueda Ortiz Suliveras.

Angel grew up in Lancaster PA, which was a growing Puerto Rican community and Angel’s parents’ home was a haven for new Puerto Rican families coming here. In the early 1970’s Angel and his brother John moved to the Bronx in New York. There he met and and later married his loving wife of 51 years, Irene Lorenzi Suliveras. They raised two sons, Anthony (Katherine) of Lancaster, and Daniel, (Elizabeth) of Miami, Fl.

Angel worked as a Merchandising Manager for J C Penney as well as Store Manager for Deerskin Leather. In these roles he utilized his skills to exemplify exceptional customer service. It was in his role as a Senior Counseling Manager for the Spanish American Civic Association (SACA), Angel strove to meet the needs of a grossly under-served community. At SACA, Angel could be found helping in a multitude of ways including supporting seniors with transportation, legal concerns, appointments, and anywhere he was needed. With a kind heart, Angel consistently went above and beyond to care for others.

Angel loved vacationing in the summer with his family at the beach. He enjoyed taking pictures. He loved to play Dominos, Spades and basketball.

Angel was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan beginning in the early 1970’s.

In addition to his wife and sons, Angel will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Gabriella Maxey Suliveras, Luca James Maxey Suliveras, Zoe Elizabeth Wheeler Suliveras, Ezra Alexander Carter Suliveras, Penelope Rose Suliveras, Benjamin Miles Suliveras, his sister, Anastasia Suliveras, and his brother Jose (Luis) Suliveras of Lancaster, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Angel was pre-deceased by a brother, John Suliveras (2017) and a sister, Maria Suliveras (2014).

A graveside service will be held on Monday March 17, 2025, at 1pm at Prospect Hill Cemetery, 700 N. George St. York PA.

Angel Suliveras was my loyal and devoted friend since I started working with him at JCPenney in 1986 at the York, PA store.  Angelo, our co-worker close friend Shelley & I were on the same management team, working the same schedule for SEVEN YEARS; and in Retail Management, there were MANY long hours spent on our feet especially during the Christmas holidays!   Even though we worked really hard, we laughed everyday even harder!
I am still in disbelief and have been in sorrow since Monday.  I became lifelong friends, with him and his wife Irene.  “Angelo” which is what I called him; he was more like my brother.   Angelo and I had in common that we both developed a VERY STRONG work ethic prior to our teenage years, as both of our fathers died very young, leaving our mothers to struggle financially and raise several children alone.
Angelo became an especially devoted friend, who provided worldly advice; he replaced family members who were not there for me; he gave me encouragement to persevere; to accept.  Angelo and his wife Irene included Lee and us in their family events.  I caught the bouquet when they renewed their vows; just 6 months before I met my husband; and then they attended our wedding in June 2000.  They visited us at our home several times; we went to his 50th B-Day party and Irene’s 60th.  They celebrated my 60th birthday party as well with 25+ other friends at our home, just to name a few times we were together.
He adored his dog, “Bruno”, as I do my sweet little girl, Blossom; he’s pictured with him below.  Poor little Bruno is probably looking for his Daddy :…(
Please remember my wise, soft spoken, unassuming, dependable friend Angel Luis Suliveras in your thoughts; say a prayer, or whatever you believe in for him. 😔

Such a loving and hardworking man. Angel loved an adored his wife and his sons.He mirrored to his sons what a husband should look like. Angel provided not only for his immediate family he also made sure provisions were made for his community. An excellent grandfather and sibling. Angel loved his family and they loved him. His sudden transition has left soo many with a hole in their hearts that only God can heal. We are praying that the Holy Spirit will comfort you. Angel’s living was not in vain♥️🙏🏽
