Anita R. Meier, 75

Anita R. Meier, 75, of St. Anne’s Retirement Community, died Saturday February 17, 2007 at Hospice of Lancaster County after an extended illness.

Born in Kew Gardens, New York, she moved to Lancaster at the age of six. She was a resident of Millersville prior to moving to St. Anne’s Retirement Community in 2005. She is a graduate of Mt. Aloysius Junior College and Millersville University. Mrs. Meier worked briefly at Armstrong prior to becoming a devoted full-time wife and mother. She enjoyed spending time with her loving husband, children, and grandchildren, and took pride in their accomplishments. Her hobbies included writing poetry and cooking. She was a former member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. Joseph A. Meier, a retired professor from Millersville University; her five children, Kathleen Meier-Hellstern of Cranbury, NJ; Lisa McShane of Vienna, VA; Kristen Meier of Silver Spring, MD; Andrea Chamberlain of Crofton, MD; Joseph Meier of Bainbridge, PA; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Beatrix Baker of Exton, PA.  She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas, who died as a young child, and her sister Carolyn Rinehart, wife of Joseph W.  Rinehart of Strasburg, PA.

Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA, 17512. Interment is in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10AM until the time of service at St. Anne’s. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Anne’s Retirement Community or to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
