Anne Long Mavrides, 65

September 10, 2024

Anne Long Mavrides, 65, passed into the presence of her Savior on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at her home after a 5 1/2 year battle with cancer. She was a loving mother, wife, aunt, and friend to many.

She was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on July 14, 1959. She was the daughter of the late Anthony J. Long and Rose (DiMassa) Long of Lancaster. She graduated from Lancaster Catholic high school and grew up at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Anne and her husband, John married on June 28, 1986. Anne worked as a dental assistant after high school, and later with the County and in real estate sales.
Anne was a homemaker for a number of years but later entered the workforce in food services, and later as a para-educator with IU–13.

Anne was gifted with a beautiful singing voice and sang for weddings and funerals, and volunteered singing with Songs for the Journey. She was a soloist and choir member at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church.
She was a faithful member of the Annunciation Orthodox Church where she taught Sunday school for years.

Anne enjoyed going for walks, going to the beach, singing, drawing, painting, and being with friends and family.

Besides her parents, Anne is preceded in death by her brother, Vincent Long. Anne is survived by her husband, John Mavrides and her children, Lisa (Mavrides) Hilsher (wife of Andrew L. Hilsher of Elizabethtown) and Michael Mavrides of Philadelphia. Anne is survived by her sister, Tina (Long) Gulick (wife of Roger Gulick of Columbia, PA.)

Anne will be remembered for her bubbly personality, optimistic outlook on life, strong faith in God, and her love and kindness toward others.

The family would like to thank the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Center medical team and staff for their kindness and support, and for the care Anne received.

Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Saturday September 14th at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., with interment to follow at Conestoga Memorial Park. A viewing will be held at the church before the funeral service from 11am – 12pm.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Center.

The Mavrides family:
Anne as you know is the embodiment of Grace. She’s always smiling, always happy, has time to speak to anyone. We met years ago as neighbors when she found a baby bunny, I helped her care for the bunny, she tirelessly cared for that baby and we released it back to the wild. She loved my cat visiting her on the porch. She was and is a good steward for Gods creatures. Heaven has one of their angels back. Her physical presence will be missed on earth but her spirit is ever lasting with you. God Bless and support you all. Vickie Pesci-Hall (neighbor and friend of 20+ years)

Dear Mavrides family, we’ll miss Anne’s funeral mass, but want you to know what a welcoming person she was when I first came with my husband and children to St. Anthony. She made us feel right at home and we appreciated her giftedness and kindness. A friend and I were just talking about her beautiful voice in our church this past Sunday. May God bless you with beautiful memories of her voice and giving heart. So sorry for the loss you must be feeling and hope your hearts are filled with a loving sense of her presence.
