Anton “Tony” Heinrichs, 61

February 05, 2024

Anton “Tony” Heinrichs, 61, of Willow Street, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Penn State Health Rehab following an extended medical illness.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, he was the son of the late Menno Heinrichs and Ellen (Anderson) Heinrichs. He was the husband of Karen (Overton) Heinrichs whom he met while working on his engineering degree in Syracuse, NY and they were married for 36 years.

Anton worked at M&T Bank as a credit risk manager for over 22 years after earning his Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Rochester. He had earlier earned a Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Syracuse University.

Although Anton and Karen had no biological children their home was always filled with the love of their many pet dogs. One of Anton’s greatest joys was found in the companionship of his loyal yellow lab, Ayla, whom he trained for hunting excursions. He leaves behind a cherished 3-legged companion, Puma, whom he rescued 5 years ago.

Beyond his outdoor pursuits, Anton was a connoisseur of music, with a particular passion for the blues. He was taking guitar lessons and was learning music theory. Together with his beloved wife, Karen, he embarked on adventures to explore different concerts and music venues, creating cherished memories for them both. They also enjoyed trips to the thousand island region of New York State yearly.

Throughout his life, Anton exemplified the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. He was an avid reader, especially fiction novels. Whether lost in the pages of a captivating novel or engaging in conversation, Tony’s presence illuminated the lives of those around him.

He is survived by his mom, Ellen Heinrichs; his wife, Karen H. Heinrichs; his siblings, Enita J. (Tony) Schmucker, and William M. (Pilar) Henrichs; his brother-in-law, Mark (Lisa) Overton; his sister-in-law, Joyce (Ric) Flanders; his sister-in-law, Kim Overton; his nieces, Mandy J. Schmucker, Renee Heinrichs, Bella Heinrichs, Shannon Overton, and Kelcey Overton; and his nephews, Boone Schmucker, Menno Heinrichs, and Jeremy Overton.

Friends and family will be received from 1PM to 2PM on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. A memorial service will follow beginning at 2PM. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Condolences to the Family

Oh, Karen.  I don’t even know what to say.  Amy and I are so sad.  Anton was one of the sweetest people we have ever known.  You and Tony were among the few friends we had before you moved away.  It was the end of an era for us.
Anton was always willing to lend a helping hand, and I was happy to oblige when he was in need.  I was glad to see him decide to learn how to play the guitar, and he was doing really well last I saw him. I know he was proud of his new hobby, and I was happy for him.  I especially enjoyed our technical engineering chat about all things mechanical. When you had a conversation with Tony, you knew he was listening.
We pray you will find strength in God’s eternal love.

Karen, it is with a heavy heart that we extend our condolences to you and your family. I have had the privilege of working with Anton in the same department for many years. We enjoyed conversations about our passion for music, guitar collections, and prior food entrepreneurship experience. We can’t imagine what you must be going through, but we wanted you to know our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Karen. Although we never had an opportunity to meet, I had a wonderful opportunity to work alongside Anton during my first job the US i.e. at M&T. Anton, it is too late to tell you this but you are my inspiration who turned an immature lady from a third world country to become a smart professional. You were my guardian who taught a Texan the life skill to survive Buffalo winter. And most importantly, you showed me the value of a mentor in life. May your departed soul rest in peace, Anton!!!
Dear Karen, may god keep you close, and give you the strength to cope with this difficult situation.

As my hiring and first manager at M&T, Anton taught me a lot and I am forever grateful for what I have achieved thanks to him. We will keep you and the family in our prayers. Karen, although we never met, I wish that God may bless you and all that grieve and keep you close during this difficult time. Tony and I grew up together in Fremont Hills. We were only two streets apart. I was up to his house many a time, playing football, baseball. We went to school together. Tony was a wonderful, caring, and intelligent person. Peace to you, always.

Karen and family, I am so sorry to hear of Anton’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with him for a number of years at M&T. We enjoyed many lunches together as well as visits to a local chocolate shop.  We also had numerous conversations about our dogs.  He was a great guy.  Please know you are in my prayers.
