Arlene B. Martin, 91

July 25, 2024

Arlene B. Martin, 91, of Lititz, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

She was the wife of the late Lloyd W. Martin, who passed away in 2005. Born in East Donegal Twp., she was the daughter of the late Allen F. and Barbara Garber Brubaker. She was a 1951 graduate of Manheim Central High School.

Arlene was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband who was the Superintendent of the Millersville Mennonite Children’s Home for 5 years. She then worked for 29 years as a cashier at John Herrs Village Market in Millersville. After retiring from there, and moving to Landis Homes, she worked part time at Oregon Dairy.

She was a member of Millersville Mennonite Church and taught Sunday School for various age groups.

Arlene volunteered at Landis Homes, and always had a joyful heart, sharing songs as she went about the Campus. Arlene was known for handing out ice cream treats and candy to the maintenance staff, and other staff at Landis Homes. She always had a bowl of candy outside her door for anyone walking past to enjoy.

She loved her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly, and delighted in spending time with family. They shared many fun times camping at Camp Swatara and vacationing together at the Chesapeake Bay, often singing silly songs and making up crazy skits!

She is survived by daughters: Linda J. married to Nelson Boll of Lititz, Carol A. married to Gerald Musser of Ephrata, and Doris S. married to Lester Cline of Lititz; 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and a sister, Doris Horst of Lititz. She was preceded in death in 2011 by her great grandson, Conner M. Holland, and by her siblings: J. Vernon, Robert, James and Laura Brubaker, Ruth Weidman, and Lois Boll.

Arlene’s family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate and loving care provided over the years by the staff at Landis Homes, specifically the staff of Lititz and Lancaster Houses.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent, in Arlene’s memory, to the Caring Fund at Landis Homes 1001 East Oregon Rd., Lititz, PA 17543.

Condolences to the Family

August 13, 2024

A great neighbor back in the day and then at work for years and years. My condolences to the rest of the family. Arlene and Lloyd were both “gems” and now they are both together again. Funny thing, I drove past your old house the other day and thought about all of you, funny how that works. She sent many good years at John Herr’s as a loyal employee.

I remember many good times with my family and Lloyd and Arlene’s family. I remember being at the millersville children’s home where they worked. We sang silly songs “like there’s a whole lot of people looking down their noses at me”.
Just thinking about how special Arlene must feel now. Reunited with Lloyd and being with Jesus!

My sincere sympathy wishes to all you girls on the passing of your mother, our dear friend, Arlene!   She taught our SS class for a long time – and allowed us teen girls to chat a few minutes at the beginning of class before she began the lesson.   That was to get it all our of our system so we would listen better! 🙂  Loved having her for a teacher and my parents had many good times with Lloyd and Arlene at Camp Swartara!  God bless each of you and your families!

Aunt Arlene, it just seems like yesterday when you and uncle lloyd got married. Time really passes by quick. Our family moved south in the fifties and now reside in TN. We on occasion did return to Lititz to see our aunts and uncles along with the many cousins. There hasn’t been a week go by that all of you were in our prayers. You will be sadly missed by all. I know their is a joyous reunion in heaven with grandpaw and grandmaw and your brothers and sisters. Even if you could return here you are in a better place that one day we can enjoy a family reunion. With much love from your nephew and my wife Lana.

My heart is broken for the family but we rejoice in the Lord.  She was so loved by many who knew her and especially her family. She is reuniting with her beloved family and we will truly get to see her again one day. May she rest in peace in her Eternal Home.  Love you Aunt Arlene. I’m left with beautiful memories of my childhood in your home with my great cousins. 🙏

We wish each of you our condolences at this time.   I am sure Lloyd & Arlene and Robert & Mary Deiter can now have as many camping trips as they want.  And I am sure they will be singing.   Peace to each of you
