Arlene (Stanhope) Carter, 81, died on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at United Zion Retirement Community. Born on a farm in Cranbury Twp., Middlesex Co., NJ she was the daughter of the late Enos VanMarter and C. Syrilla (Marmion) Stanhope. Mrs. Carter lived in Windsor and Hightstown, NJ until moving to Myerstown, PA in 2003.
She was a member of the Windsor United Methodist Church for many years. She was a volunteer for the East Windsor School District and was an active supporter and foster parent for feline neuter and spaying programs.
Arlene loved cooking, gardening, ballroom dancing and cross stitching beautiful crafts.
Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband Robert D. Carter of Myerstown, a daughter, Dina Carter Ishler wife of Patrick A. Ishler of Lititz; three grandchildren, Faith, Carter, and Thomas and a host of loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Enos V. Stanhope, Jr., C. Bruce Stanhope, and a sister, Syrilla Stanhope Binger.
Funeral Services will be held at 2PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at St. Edward’s Episcopal Church, 2453 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 with the Rev. Canon Stephen C. Casey officiating. A Viewing will be held from 5-7PM on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz and again on Wednesday from 12-1PM at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Arlene’s memory may be made to a favorite animal program or an animal shelter of one’s choice.
