Benedict “Benny” Zangari, 95

Benedict “Benny” Zangari, 95, Lancaster, passed away on January 6th, 2018, in Philadelphia.
Born in Manheim Township, he was the son of the late Domenico, Sr. and Mary (Cassido) Zangari. Benny was one of thirteen children.
Having served honorably during WWII with the 508th Parachute Inf. Reg. and Prodigy, Benny was part of a family that had eight brothers and one sister who served during war time (Pearl Harbor, WWII, and Korea) and served honorably.
Benny owned one of the well-known local Zangari Pizza Shop’s on Chestnut & Broad Streets and he was also in the entertainment business.
Benny was a full-time volunteer with the old Lancaster County-owned Conestoga View Nursing Home, where he was awarded the 1993 Volunteer of the Year for PA Association of County Affiliated Homes.
He is survived by four brothers and one sister: Dominic, Jr., of Satellite Beach, FL; Louis J., husband of Jacqueline Fitzgerald Zangari, of Bausman, PA; Ronald, Sr., of Lancaster; Gerald, of Lancaster; Marie Zangari, of Lancaster; and sister-in-law Eileen Green Zangari, of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by brothers John, The Rev. Salvatore V., Anthony, Francis, and sisters, Lucy Van Buskirk, Mary Fetterhoff, and Theresa Zangari Terriman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 501 E. Orange St. Lancaster, PA 17602 on Friday, January 19th 2018 at 11AM. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be sent to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St. Lancaster, or a charity of one’s choice.

Very sorry about the passing of your uncle. I didn’t know him that well but when I did run into him he was a quite a charactor. Another member of the greatest generation is gone. Soft landing trooper.

I got to know Ben, when he started to volunteer at Conestoga View. I have memories of when Ben and I went to Las Vegas together. He enjoyed the trip. Rest in peace, Ben!
