Bernard Sylvester Hartman, 88

Bernard Sylvester Hartman, 88, of Lancaster, changed his address to Heaven on Friday, April 1, 2016 after a brief illness.
Born in Lebanon County, he was the son of Joseph A. and Ina Liskey Hartman. He was married 52 years to Elva A. Scheidler Hartman, deceased 2001, and 13 years to Virginia Lefever Schwebel Hartman.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters: Karen L., wife of Stephen Yohe of York, Cheryl J. of Lititz, and Lois E., wife of Jay Aument of Conestoga; five grandchildren: Glori Yohe Deneffe, of Belgium, and Jonathan, LaDessa, Lenita, and Jaybin Aument, of Conestoga, and two great-grandchildren: Timothee and Matthieu Deneffe of Belgium. Also surviving are three sisters: Marie White Jones of Quarryville, Irene Blouch of Cornwall, and Theresa Hall of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Harold, and sister, Almeda Boyer.
“Bernie”, fondly known as “the shoe man”, repaired shoes for 56 years and worked 18 years at Schick Electric. He passionately gardened, winning shoeboxes full of ribbons in local fairs. A Navy Veteran, he served in the Pacific from 1945-49, and in the Atlantic from 1951-52. He was a member of Word of Life A.B.F. at Calvary Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11:30AM at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Rd, Lancaster, PA 17601. Interment will be held in Mellinger’s Mennonite Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9:30-11:30AM at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Church, missions fund or Gospel for Asia, 1116 St. Thomas Way, Wills Point, TX 75169.
