Betty Maile, 94

Betty Maile, a talented performer and beloved matriarch, left us peacefully on February 25, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel (Sturgis) Dorwart.

A skilled dance instructor known for her expertise in the art of belly dancing, Betty poured her heart and creativity into every performance. She not only taught the art of dance, but designed her own costumes, showcasing her dedication to the craft. Her passion for dance took her on journeys throughout her life, from taking professional classes in New York City to traveling to Egypt with fellow dancers.

Betty was also an exceptional cook, known for her ability to create grand family dinners. She delighted in entertaining and ensuring her loved ones felt cherished and included. Her warmth and kindness made her the most amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Betty is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 74 years, Donald Maile of Lancaster; a love story they were always quick to tell, Don met his “Beautiful Betty” at the Sixth Ward Park at the age of 16. She is also survived by her children: Shirley Lorraine Maile of Lancaster and Frank W. Maile of New Jersey; her grandchildren: Keith Wissing, Dean Wissing (Amy), Colleen Lynette Maile, Angela Lorraine DeLaney (Rich), Michelle Maile, and Christy Archer (Jason); her great grandchildren: Vayda Good, Michael Archer, Alayna Archer, Christopher Archer, Molly Wissing, Luke Wissing, Alice Wissing, Olivia DeLaney, and Gwendolyn DeLaney; one brother: Donnie Dorwart (Song) and niece Diana Dorwart.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Hill, and her brother, Charlie Dorwart.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA, 17584 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a funeral service to take place at 11:00 AM. Following services, Betty will be laid to rest at Conestoga Memorial Park.
