SO sorry to read of your son Brian’s passing. Just read about it randomly.. Our son, Brian Joseph Kelly died on 5/14/22 of alcoholism, along with Schizophrenia. Like your son, he was good looking, engaging, talented & never will be forgotten. He was 39. We retired here to Lancaster in 2021; originally from upstate NY. Your beautiful son will never be forgotten..and his life mattered!

Thinking of your family at this very difficult time. Brian was such a bright light in so many peoples lives. He grew up with my kid brother, and was always so sweet, and genuine every time I got to see him.. watching the two grow up together, it was so fun to see all of the videos Brian created of them skating, biking and adventuring. Long may his beautiful spirit live on. So sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your tragic loss. My son graduated with Brian, and he told me that when he first started attending CV in the 10th grade, Brian was the one who reached out to him the most since my son had to transfer schools and didn’t know anyone. I just wanted to let you know that my son remembers how kind Brian was to him. We will keep you and your family in our prayers. May he rest in peace.

I am so so very sorry for your loss! It makes my heart break. I knew the whole family when I was younger and growing up. He was a sweet child. We all suffer in some way I know I’ve had my battles and am still continuing to fight every single day. It’s not easy and it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done I just wish he was still here to fight. May Brian be at peace now. My thoughts and prayers are with the Kelly family in this horrible time. I love you all!

Working in mental health has many difficult challenges but this is the toughest of them all. Brian had such a contagious smile. He walked in the office with a smile even though you could tell he was having a rough day. We mourn the loss of such a young, bright soul. Brian, may you be at peace and rest easy.

I can remember the first day Brian came into our office. From that day on, he and I would chat and a connection was made. We had many short conversations as time would allow. He often would ask how my son was…as they shared some of the same struggles.
Brian’s smile lit his face! He always had a kind word to say. One time in particular he showed me paperwork he had regarding a new video project he was working on. It was wonderful to see his excitement and that he wanted to share his project interest.
I can still see Brian’s face….as he left our office recently. I had missed him when he came in but caught him just before he left. He turned around and smiled and like every time before, we caught up once again.
He has touched my heart as he has so many. I will miss this young man who would brighten my day. His struggles were very real. Unless a close friend or family member deals with a mental health issue, it is hard to understand the depth of its grip. We pass others daily and have no clue of what that individual may be dealing with. Take the time to be kind…just as Brian would. I will miss you kiddo.
Mom and Dad…and family…I pray for strength and peace. I met you the first time you came to our office. I sat with Dad the second time. The love and concern you have for your son was beyond obvious. Thank you for supporting and seeking help with him. There are many who dont have such support and love. May God be with you going forward. Face one day at a time. Hour by hour.

I am so sorry for your loss. Suicide deaths are very difficult to work through. My son, Alexander, died 5 years ago by suicide at age 17. He struggled just as your son did. My heart just aches for you and your family with his loss and just the turmoil his mental illness was on you over the years. My husband and I have made ourselves available to talk with anyone who are suicide survivors. Please feel free to contact us – we’d be privileged to walk alongside you. We’ll be praying for you.

To Brian’s family,
I am sorry for your loss. It is tragic to say the least. You are in for a long haul on the road to healing. I know because my grandson died January 2018 here at my house. I have asked myself a million times “what could I have done more to help him’ and the answer is always the same. Nothing! I did all I could with the knowledge I had but I was not as strong as the depression he suffered. I do know that your son, as well as my grandson knew you loved him very much and he did not harm himself to get back at you. It was the darkness that he was living in. There is a group that meet at the Mount Joy hospice center for survivors of those who died from addition of any kind. It meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Mount Joy Grief Center. My grandson was on very strong prescribed drugs but also chose to use heroin. He told us that the drug would take away the darkness and pain for a while but it would always come back. He ultimely died of an Overdose. Know what your son, brother, nephew, or grandson did was a reflection on any of you. I know you did all you could to help him.
My heart goes out to all of you as you navigate your “new” life. It is a struggle every day! I pray that in time peace will find a way into your heart!
Sicerely,
Christine
