Dearest Carole was such a light in my life and has inspired me beyond words. She was my first year Advisor at Etown and made me laugh so often with her openness and humor. She was a rare soul who brought joy, perspective and challenge, while also loving so deeply. One of my favorite stories to share is the time my friend Lisa Bond (also a student who had Carole as a 1st year Advisor) and I were living in California. We attended a concert with Paul McCartney headlining and we immediately thought of Carole. We decided to call her at 11pm California time, which was 2am PA time. We yelled over the crowd, “CAROLE!!! It’s Paul McCartney!!!” and let her hear the concert for a while. She got such a kick out of us thinking of her and letting her experience Paul, even if we woke up Troy and household with the 2am call.
I just learned of Carole’s passing yesterday from a dear Admissions rep from Etown while working a college fair. Holding back tears while meeting young folks looking to start their college journey, I thought of all the ways Carole served as such a light for me and others at such a pivotal moment in our lives.
Sending so much love to Troy, Benjamin and John.

Nina and I have warm memories of Carole, in my case both as an E-town colleague and a friend. Her wide, outgoing smile in the obituary photograph is so characteristic. Carole was always extremely friendly and willing to help anybody in need in her roles as teacher, advisor, as well as riend. Her passing is a great loss. Troy, our thoughts are with you.

I would not be who I am if it were not for Carole. She was a living angel over me while I was at Etown from 2004-2008. She was one of the single-most important people in my life. She gave me absolute and unwavering acceptance, compassion, and kindness. I have vivid memories of her telling me things that I live by every day now. Carole, I will always cherish you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My love to Troy and family.

Carole Work was one of my favorite teachers at Penn Manor HS. Her knowledge, kindness, and gentle sarcastic humor made being a student in her classes a pleasure–so much so that I became an English instructor as well.

Phil and I have so many happy memories of Carole. She loved life and, best of all, she loved my brother and Ben. We had such great times, especially when we lived in Hawaii. She became kind of a big sister to me, approving and not hesitating to disapprove my choices. But I always respected her and have come to realize the impact she had not only on me but also on so many of her students. We will all miss her tremendously. Our love to Troy and Ben.

Carole was a special friend to me and to many others. Her spirits were always high, as she dealt with whatever the world chose to throw at her and her family. We will miss her and remember. Her memory will be a blessing.
