Catherine Dorothy Hinkel, 97

September 25, 2024

Catherine Dorothy Hinkel, 97, of Mount Joy passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 in Kennesaw, GA, where she had been lovingly cared for by her adoring nieces, Patty and Karin, for the last two years. Known fondly as Dottie to some and Cathy to others, she was born on March 27, 1927, in Maspeth, NY. She was the daughter of the late James and Catherine Woolley and was married to her one and only true love, Louis Richard “Dick” Hinkel, for 63 years, until he passed away with her by his side on October 5, 2013.

Catherine had a very successful career in banking, which spanned more than four decades. She
worked for companies with locations in Manhattan, Queens, and on Long Island. At a time
when the banking industry was male dominated, she was the first woman to be promoted to branch manager. When they retired, she and Dick moved from Smithtown, NY to Lancaster,
PA, a town she had fallen in love with when visiting her sister, Ruthie, who had moved here with her husband, years earlier. She never lost her NY roots or strong Long Island accent, but Lancaster quickly became her new hometown. Retirement didn’t last long for Catherine. Her second career was in retail, working for Boscov’s Department Store for more than 30 years, first fulltime, as the Cash Office manager, and then parttime in Public Relations & Special Events and Fine Jewelry Departments. She had a gift for customer service and loved working for Boscov’s where she made life-long friends, many who were just like family to her.

Catherine had an abundance of energy and usually walked 8-10 miles a day, well into her 90s, meeting new friends along the way. She had a passion for cooking, gardening, decorating, shopping and entertaining. She would send her dinner guests home with enough food for weeks
including dessert, and if lucky, one of her infamous cheesecakes. She was a caring, loving and devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend. She was always dressed to the nines in the latest fashion, accessories, high heels and signature long red nails. Her enthusiastic, happy and fun-loving spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly celebrated by all who knew her.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William & Dolores Woolley of Boca Raton, FL and Margaret Woolley Guilford of Greensboro, NC; her nieces & nephews whom she adored and cherished as her own children, Patricia Bastiansen of Kennesaw, GA, Karin Bastiansen Agnetti of Adairsville, GA, David & Cathy (Cascio) Stolz, of Mount Joy, PA, James & Kimberly Cascio of Sarasota, Nathaniel & Katrina (Guilford) Hayes of Greensboro, NC; Scott & Tiffany Woolley of Delray Beach, FL, Diane Woolley Papa of Orlando, FL and Christina & Marko Andrioff of Orlando, FL; many beloved great nieces & nephews; and some great-great nieces and nephews whom she was thrilled to get to meet before she passed away. In addition to her husband and parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Woolley; sisters and brother-in-laws, Ruthie (Woolley) & Frank Cascio, Florence (Woolley) & William Bastiensen; and George A Guilford III; two nephews, William Bastiensen and Robert Bastiensen; and one great-nephew, Kevin Cascio.

Catherine enjoyed every moment of life, brought joy to every room and a smile to everyone she
met. She would end every visit with, “Have a Happy Happy Day!”

Family and friends are invited to attend Catherine’s funeral service on Thursday, October 24,
2024 at 11am at Mary Mother of the Church, 625 Union School Rd., Mount Joy. The family will
have a visitation from 10am to11am. She will be interred with her husband, Dick, at Indiantown
Gap National Cemetery.
