Charles Fredrick Noble, 81

Charles Fredrick Noble, 81of Lancaster passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Essa Flory Hospice Center, after a long illness.
Born in San Diego, CA he was the son of the late Barbara Borey Brines, and Russell Charles Noble
He is survived by his three daughters, Martha Noble-Pender of Los Angeles; Elizabeth Landis wife of Robert S. of Lancaster; Emily Noble of Albuquerque, and a grandson, Race Frederick Pender of Los Angeles. A brother, Richard Noble of Miami; sister Mary Noble of Alexandria, and sister, Carolyn Abshire wife of William of Satellite Beach, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Frances Noble Gerhart, sister, Coralie Mayer Bentley, and niece Dorothy Jeanne Mayer.
Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Navy, during the Korean War on the USS Hornet, where he was an apprentice in the print shop onboard the ship. He was a lithographer by trade.
He grew up in Hanover PA, where he met and married his first wife Joan (Pfaff) Noble and settled in Lancaster in 1959.
He was a voracious reader and self-taught classical guitarist. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang as a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Charlie was a member of the Lancaster Toastmasters and The Susquehanna Yacht Club where he sailed his Lightning and raced most weekends. He also taught nautical knot tying to sailing students at the Downtown Sailing Center in Baltimore, MD. Charlie was very involved in local politics, and had a deep appreciation for music and the arts.
His family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the care givers at Maple Farms Nursing Center, and the Essa Flory Hospice Center for their gentle and competent care of our father during his illness.
He will be sorely and deeply missed by his family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM on October 4, 2013 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 321 West Chestnut St, Lancaster, PA 17603, with The Rev. John W. Morris officiating. Family and friends will be received from 1-2PM. A Life Celebration will be held at 4PM on October 5, 2013 at the Susquehanna Yacht Club, 1730 Long Level Rd, Wrightsville, PA 17368.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charlie’s memory may be sent to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Dr, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604, or the Humane League of Lancaster, 2195 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602

I’m sorry to hear about Charlie. I met Charlie several years ago when he sat beside me at the 915 Cafe. He introduced himself to me and we chatted about various topics. I found him to be pleasant and a very friendly person.

We are so sad to hear of Charlie’s passing. It was always such a pleasure seeing his smiling face walk through the door. He always made you feel so good with his kind words. The world has lost someone very special. Dick & Mindy
