David E. Weaver, 70

December 20, 2022

David E. Weaver, 70, of West. Hempfield Township, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at home, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Born in Lebanon, PA, he was the son of the late Richard and Marie (Wenger) Weaver. David was the loving husband of Colleen (Kranzley) Weaver, and they celebrated 34 years of marriage this past June.

David graduated from ELCO High School, Millersville University, and received his Master’s in Education Degree from Temple University. He was a 5th grade teacher at Centerville Elementary School in the Hempfield School District for 37 years. After retirement, David volunteered at the elementary school for ten years. He took pride in his school and his students. He shared his passion for learning with thousands of children. He was nominated and named LNP Lancaster County Favorite Teacher in July 1993. He enjoyed many memories with his fellow teachers, developing enduring friendships. During retirement, a man of many skills, David also spent much of his time renovating every room of the family home. In his free time, he could be found building and flying model aircraft. A highlight of his love of aviation was a flight in a B-29. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors of Tioga County hunting and fishing; a tradition that was shared with multiple generations. David was a fan of Penn State football and spent many wonderful fall Saturdays tailgating at Beaver Stadium with friends and family.

David had a deep love for his family and cherished time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. Along with his wife, Colleen, he is survived by his daughter, Erin Devlin and her husband Ryan of San Diego, CA, and his son, Adam Weaver and his companion Monica of King George, VA, as well as two beautiful grandchildren, Royce and Sadie Devlin. Also surviving are two sisters, Sylvia Heagy (Douglas), Newmanstown, PA and Nancy Zartman (Delmar), Lebanon, PA, in-laws Michele (Greg) and Eric (Meg) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Weaver.

David wrote his own special thank you. “I would like to thank a wonderful institution in our area – the Anne B. Barshinger Cancer Institute! I have received expert care at this facility, every two weeks, for almost three years. The staff, including doctors, nurses, patient care assistants, secretarial, greeting, and custodial staff have been the most professional, compassionate and competent group of people that I have ever had the privilege of knowing. A special thanks to the women and men of the infusion wing – they are the absolute best. While I do not know when and how my journey will end, I will always be grateful for meeting this special group of people.”

Family and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service which will take place at 7 PM on Monday, April 17, 2023 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Like, Lititz, PA. There will be a time of greeting from 5 – 7 PM. Per David’s wishes, casual dress is encouraged.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate if contributions in David’s memory be made to the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, 2102 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.

Condolences to the Family

December 31, 2022

I was lucky enough to be one of the thousands of students taught by David in his homeroom class in 2002. He was so impactful on my academic journey, and I have so many fond memories of him. From helping me prepare as the only fifth grade girl in the Centerville geography bee, to rehearsing as I played Fan in our play ‘A Christmas Carol’, to him tracing our silhouettes for open house night, and encouraging me to embrace my heritage and perform a traditional highland fling for our grade (as a shy, timid eleven year old), I carry those memories so close even twenty years later. Thank you so much for simply being you, I am eternally grateful to have known you. Blessings and peace to all xoxo

Everyone wanted to be in Mr. Weaver’s class. His personality and love for the kids in his class was infectious.  May God bless and keep you, his family as you grieve.

December 31, 2022

I am sure you all have heard this often over the many years of his teaching career. Mr. Weaver was truly a beloved teacher at Centerville Elementary and an icon as a fifth grade teacher. We all truly loved him and am sure he helped shaped MANY. I had Mr. Weaver  for fifth grade there for the 1977/1978 school year and he is one we all never forget. So sorry for your loss and prayers for all of your family.

My heart and prayers go out to all family members. I had Mr Weaver as my teacher and he was my favorite teacher.
As a class we did the “Christmas Carol” for our play. He took me into the hall to ask me if I would play Tiny Tim even though I wad a girl. Since, at that time I was the smallest in our class. He was a great teacher! I will always remember his kindness.

Sorry for your family’s loss. My children loved him and always talked about how “cool” Mr Weaver is..lol and if we seen him at funfest or  out and about he’d say hello & always had a memory about them he’d talk about…Everyone will cherish their memories!  (HUGS)

Colleen I am saddened for you and the children at Dave’s passing. I truly admired him as a teacher and role model for kids. I remember how I thought you two were perfect together when you found each other at Hempfield. The many years of happiness you shared will provide comforting memories as you move through the grief.

December 24, 2022

Mr Weaver was the absolute best teachers that my children had at Centerville. He was always able to support them and encourage them, even coming to their extra curricular activites. That spoke volumes to me as a mom and to them as his students. Thank you to his family! Teaching is tough but he was the best!

December 24, 2022

Dave was a valued teaching colleague and a fellow aviation enthusiast.
He was also a good friend and on top of that he was a heck of a good guy.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
My heartfelt sympathies to his family.

I only knew Dave for 10 years, he was the Secretary/ Treasurer of the R/C model airplane club, Dave kept this club together by his hard work both in the background and on the field. As President I will miss his guidance and humor, they say no one is irreplaceable but Dave was. We will struggle without him. A gentleman and a scholar, I will mis you.
