Hi Ellie, I am so sorry for your loss. I am Merv King’s youngest daughter Audrey, and I lost my dad on July 28, 2024. We would have loved to come to Dave’s memorial service, but only got the notice the day before and dad was not doing well. Barbie Dienner called me with the news. I have many fond memories of you and Dave when you worked with my parents Merv and Carol in Shaklee. Again I am sorry for your loss Ellie.

Ellie, Kadee, and Emily,
Lifting you and all the family up in prayer knowing that all of you are leaning on the Lord Jesus right now.👆
Dave was one of the dearest friends, mentor, and role model I’ve ever had in my entire life. God put him in my life at a time even though I was in my 40s I needed some help with the direction God wanted to take me. Dave fulfilled that rule, wonderfully well.
He had such a kind heart is soft spirit and his love for the Lord we always present. I thank the Lord for putting him in my life.. And Ellie getting to spend time with you as well. Lori always enjoyed our time together as well.
Like one of Dave’s good friends and business associates, Leon Bates used to say, “He’s graduated to Heaven!”
Knowing we will all get to be together in Heaven with Jesus one day, can give us all peace and hope. I’m looking forward to that day with you all as well.
Praying for you and for the comfort of knowing this…
Loving memories of all out times together,
Greg and Lori Rooney

Dearest Ellie. It’s been so many years since the three of us were last together, and I’m feeling such a deep sadness to hear about Dave’s passing. Although the time gone by has been long, I have many fond memories of spending loving and inspirational discussions with the two of you. You always welcomed me as family. Three heartfelt words come to my mind as I remember Dave’s smile that lit up the room: Communion, Community and Commitment. Dave’s life path, for me, embodied those 3 guiding principles and I will be eternally grateful for having had the honor and joy of being in his light-filled presence.
Much love to you and the family.

He was a light shining in the darkness! Pointing the way to healthy holy living and reaching out to troubled boys who had lost their way. He opened his door at 2:00 in the morning during a snow storm when one of his kids knocked on the door seeking solace and warmth and a warm cup of cocoa. He never hesitated, but opened that door and led the prodical inside to bed down on the living room couch. “It’s Ok, Jon, we’ll talk in the morning. Relax, you’re safe here!”
Next morning and the next and the next and the next Jon found love and safety and warm laughter and fellowship with a family of 4 who “adopted” him as their own. For several months while big brother Dave mentored him… They cooked and prayed and talked about heart issues and God’s unconditional love. They bought him gifts. He showed me a long velour black robe just like Dave’s which was given to him. “Makes me feel like a king!” he announced proudly.
Dave encouraged him to be responsible and consider another job. Bob Evans had just opened in our town. Dave accompanied him and he was hired and immediately learned all the codes to begin taking orders. The affirmation of receiving a pay check! He encouraged and cheered on the other new workers as they also learned. His enthusiasm and cheer was contageous! He was loved and loved in return.
2 weeks later we received the call at midnight from Dave, “Bad news, Jon swallowed a handful of his own meds and has gone on to Jesus!”
Oh death where is your sting? Grave, where is your victory?
Dave testified at the funeral several days later. “Jon pushed himself just a little too far. He tipped over the edge and God said, It’s Ok, Jon, come on home.”
This week, JOn was waiting there by the far side of the Jordan, waiting drawing pictures in the sand, Dave, and when I see you comin’ I will rise up with a shout, I’ll come running thru the shallow water, reaching for your hand.
I can see them together running to Jesus and falling down in worship! Mentor Dave with dear Jon
Two of our favorite people!
Ellie and girls, we love you!!

Ellie, Emily Kadee and family, I will forever be thankful to God for the privilege of knowing Dave as a close and dear friend and brother in Christ. He brought Joy and smiles into every room he walked in. He was a mentor to our oldest son Michael for many many years, and I personally witnessed his love for Jesus and people. My sincere condolences to you Ellie and the Stoltzfus family. Dave will be missed indeed, but now he is celebrating freedom and joy in the presence of our sweet Jesus.

Dave was one of the great ones. This special man of faith, father, and friend will be sorely missed, and “lives on” through his mentorship he impressed upon me in my early 20’s. Dave was a great friend to my family and helped my parents start a business that lasted nearly 30 years (Focus On Growth, Inc.)!!!
May you rest in Peace with the Lord Dave! I know Dennis and Steven were waiting for you at the gate with a cup of Java Dave’s in hand.
