Donald L. Kirkley, 71
February 26, 2024
Donald L. Kirkley, age 71, passed away peacefully holding his wife’s hand and surrounded by his family on January 26, 2024. Born to the late Burnite and Ruth Kirkley, Don was known for his love of Jesus, family, music, and teaching.
He had a keen intellectual curiosity and was an avid reader with interest in many topics. Beyond books, he enjoyed woodworking, singing, playing bass guitar, and kayaking. Don was a true jack of all trades. He loved talking to people, often being the last one out of church. His commitment to teaching those around him left a lasting impact.
Don’s legacy lives on in his devoted wife, Bonnie, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage, their three children: Matthew Kirkley (Sarah), Daniel Kirkley (Jenni), and Stephanie Bleau (Jason), and their grandchildren: Andrea, Autumn, Nathaniel, Jeremiah, McKenzie, and Abigail. He is also remembered by his brother David Kirkley (Linda).
A service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at LCBC Manheim campus. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Don’s honor to be made to Global Disciples at https://globaldisciples.org/ and the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at https://www.theaftd.org/.

Dear Bonnie,
I am so sorry for the loss of your precious husband. I wish we could attend the Celebration of Life for Don to be able to see you all in person. We have very fond memories of you all! I enjoyed and appreciate Don’s selfless service at Harford Christian. I know I had him for civics, which he made easy to remember even to this day. He was the coach for Bible Quizzing from 1&2 Peter which you can see I still remember also to this day. Even Basic Computer, which he had the job of teaching for the first year it was offered, is still helpful to this day. Not that I understood it, but that wasn’t his fault!I appreciate the time you and I had together as you played the piano for me to sing at church. I also remember babysitting when you just had the boys. They had active minds which made it so much fun! Our family and our church family have been praying for the Lord’s comfort for you all.
Sincerely,
Dorine Twitchell Russell

Bonnie, Matt, Dan, and Stephanie,
Don was certainly a one of a kind class act. Memories of him and your family from our First Baptist days bring nothing but a smile to our face. I (Donna) had a double blessing of being able to work with Don at the Here’s visitor center which only made a great job even better. Wherever he was he brought Joy and laughter. His most striking quality, though, was his love for his family second only to his love for Jesus. Anyone who knew him was truly blessed and the greatest blessing of all is that those of us who share in his faith of Christ resurrected well indeed see him again!
Much love,
Matt and Donna Eason

Bonnie and family,
Just want to say that I love you all and that I will always hold close my memories of Don, from the time he was my youth group leader, (that’s taking it way back), to our times playing and singing together with Rhonda and Terri and then the many worship team years together, GBC concerts and so much more! Always loved his sunday school classes too. Jim and I send our love and prayers to you and the kids and grand-kids. May the Lord hold you gently in his loving arms in the coming days.

I was sad to read of Don’s passing. My earliest memory of Don was from our Youth For Christ days way back in the early 70’s. Even then, I remembered him as friendly and easy to talk with. Over the years, whenever we interacted at Harford Christian School, and later when we both worked for Herr’s, I found him to be the same, Christ-honoring person. I’m thankful that I knew him. I will be praying for you and your family.
