Donna Gilbert Eckert, 81

Donna Gilbert Eckert (81 years) passed away on October 5, 2023. Born in Lancaster, PA, the only child of Ellis and Irene (Steyer) Gilbert, she graduated from Manheim Township High School. She received BS, Masters, and Reading Specialist degrees from Millersville State College. She attended First United Methodist Church of Lancaster and taught for the School District of Lancaster for over twenty-five years. In addition to her husband, Terry L. Eckert, she is survived by her daughters; Tanya L. Eckert (Brett A. Budis) of Syracuse, NY; and Tara L. Eckert (Darrel E. Herbst, Jr.) of Penn Valley, PA; and grandchildren; Theo J. Eckert-Budis and Barlow E. Herbst. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17604-0149 or via www.hospiceandcommunitycare.org

Mom enjoyed Donna’s frequent phone calls. It was so nice of her to talk to Mom often. Mom admired Doona’s strength during her illness and she never complained, which was admirable.

My sympathy and condolences to Donna’s family. I worked as her kindergarten assistant at George Washington Elementary School for a few years. She was a wonderful person who really loved her students. Unfortunately, I lost contact with her after her retirement, but can never forget the things she taught me as her assistant.

When my company transfered my family to PA from NJ Donna and Terry were our first friends. Our friendship has been true now for over 22 years.
We will always remember Donna as the steady voice of being calm but firm. Plus her neighborhood famous yearly garage sales.
We miss you so much already.
