Dorothy A. Hince, 86

Dorothy A. Hince, 86, of Lancaster, entered peacefully into rest in the arms of her loving family on June 26, 2006.  She was formerly of 632 Poplar Street where she lived for 51 years.

Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Scheuchenzuber and Anna Kronthaler Scheuchenzuber.  Dorothy was a 1938 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School.

She worked as a switchboard operator for almost 15 years at the former Conestoga Bank.  She also sold Avon products for 10 years and worked at Simplex Valve and Meter Company and then at Permutit Company.  She worked as an aid with Nurses Available for 10 years.

Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church and was a bingo worker at the church for many years.  She also volunteered at Manor Care Nursing Home for 8 years.

Dorothy enjoyed many activities, including table tennis, traveling, shuffleboard, reading, bowling, and miniature golf.  Her greatest joys were her children and dancing.  Dorothy loved to dance.  She and her friend Vic Hollinger, now of the Mennonite Home, had many hours of dancing enjoyment and also entertained nursing home residents with their dancing.

Dorothy was much beloved by her family and friends.  In the last year, she made her home at Conestoga View, where her sunny smile, sense of humor, strong spirit, and love of dancing earned many friends and admirers among the dedicated staff.

Dorothy is survived by three daughters:  Carol A., Marcia L., and Christine M. Hince, all of California.  She is also survived by two sons:  Daniel J. and his wife Christine O. Hince of Hackettstown, NJ, and Joseph R. Hince of Mount Joy.  Also surviving are her brother Louis Wittensoldner of Lititz, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
