Dorothy S. Allen, 95

February 21, 1928 - September 18, 2023

Dorothy S. Allen, 95, passed away at Calvary Homes on Monday, September 18, 2023. She shared almost 62 years with her husband, Roy Q. Allen, before his passing in 2011.

Born in Ridley Park, PA, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Elsie (Briggs) Shenkin.

Dottie graduated from Haverford High School. She had many jobs over the years including secretarial work and sales. She worked as an inside sales representative in the electronic manufacturing industry.

Dottie and Roy retired to Lady Lake, FL, in 1993, and then moved to Calvary Homes in 2007. They worshipped at Calvary Church, and then the Chapel at Calvary Homes.

A hard and dedicated worker, she was a lifelong learner. She enjoyed reading a wide range of subjects. She had a beautiful voice and loved music. She was unbeatable in word games and solved many crossword puzzles. She became an avid golfer and she and Roy enjoyed golfing together.

Dottie’s surviving family includes her sons, David R. Allen, husband of Britta, Pine, AZ, and Kenneth R. Allen, husband of Carol, Gorham, NH, grandson Benjamin Allen, her daughters, Linda A Hege, wife of George, Alburtis, PA, grandchildren Elisabeth Reese, wife of Justin and their children, Elsie, Griffin, Ada, and Jordyn; Bryan Hege, husband of Jenna, and their son Calvin, and Jane E. Roberts, wife of Henry, Sioux Falls, SD, granddaughters Abigail Cloud, wife of Justin, and Danielle Angilletta, wife of Michael, and their son Mason.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dottie was preceded in death by her grandson Nathan Hege, and her sister Delores Jones.

A memorial service at Calvary Homes Chapel will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 3 pm in the chapel, with a fellowship tea afterwards.
