My sincere condolences to Connie and family for your loss of a great man. I was fortunate enough to have worked with Doug at Sears in the early days in Syracuse, NewYork and then in various managment assignments throughout the Eastern Region. Doug was a true mentor. He always knew how do the job in an easier and better way and he was always willing to share his knowledge. I never took advantage of his offers to join him on a hunting trip-I wish I had.

i am sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. He was a great friend of my late husband, Fred Brucker, who preceded him in death 12 years ago. They were both Sears Store Managers, and together with George Wilbur and Gene, they told many Sears stories. I believe they all contributed to the history and the Glory Days of Sears. After retirement, Doug enjoyed several years of winter months in the Florida Keys while my husband I and I were there. We rented homes close to each other there and enjoyed Tarpon fishing with Cap’t Jack Kelly.
i do remember his signature saying, although a bit different from another who expressed his condolences. I have since moved on to new places and a new home, and my recollection of Doug is that he always said “It only costs a little more to go first class.”
Sometimes he was right about that, and I always think of him when I am making decisions about home improvements, or making purchases, or travel. He was right. Life is short; it should be enjoyed, and he did.
My sincere condolences to Connie, his loving family, and all those who enjoyed Doug’s magnetic presence.

You have my deepest condolences, Mr. Grow was a mentor for me at my career at Sears. He was the person most responsible for my promotions and I will always be indebted to him. He was not only a mentor but also a friend. I’ll always remember him saying “it only takes a couple pennies more to go first class.” He definitely was a first class guy.

I worked at sears and Doug was my boss back in the 80s. I was the building maintenance manger back then. He always had time for me to listen to my suggestions for his sears store. He was firm but always fair with me.He had the cleanest stockroom floors in the history of sears.I will never forget him!

Our deepest sympathies to Connie and the Grow families. We had the pleasure of meeting Doug and Connie when they moved into their home inn the Woods Edge dev. We lived across the street from them. We enjoyed each others company many times over meals at each other’s houses or just getting together outside for a casual beer 30. I always told them that if I was in the dog haouse, I wanted to live in their basement. We always enjoyed listening to his hunting and fishing trips and seeing his trophies in the basement.
Our prayers are with you in your time of greiving. We will always cherish the times we had together with them. RIP Doug.
