Earl Joseph Sharp, 82

Earl Joseph Sharp, age 82, of Lancaster passed away on October 15, 2018. Born on June 28, 1936 in Wheeling, WV, he was the son of the late Edgar A. Sharp and Dorothy E. (Cahill) Sharp Floyd.
Earl was a 1954 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Wheeling WV, served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958, obtained his BS degree from Morris Harvey College (a/k/a The University of Charleston) in Charleston, WV in 1970 and acquired a Master’s Degree in Industrial Safety from Marshall University in Huntington, WV in 1972.
Earl moved his wife and children from Charleston to Lancaster in 1978 after accepting a position at Engle-Hambright & Davies where he was a dedicated employee who served 30 years until his retirement in 2008 as Assistant Vice President of Risk Control Services.
Earl enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to reminisce about the past and had a great sense of humor. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose compassion and strength influenced those around him.
In addition to his wife Nancy, with whom he shared over 58 years of marriage, he is survived by and will be deeply missed by his seven children: Terry Sharp (Lancaster), Karen Sharp Dillard (Houston, TX), Connie Sharp (Lancaster), Donna (Christy) Sharp Oxley and husband Michael Oxley (Milwaukee, WI), Gregory Sharp (Leola, PA), Cathy Sharp (York, PA) and Kevin Sharp (South Korea). Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Katherine Dillard, Tyler Sharp, Hannah Sharp, Robert Dillard, Sarah Oxley, Aaron Sharp, Samantha Oxley and Kellie Dillard; and one great-grandson, Olsen Grey Clark. He is also survived by his brother, Edwin J. Sharp and wife Barbara Pearl Sharp of Winchester, VA.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601 with Rev. Steven Arena as Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John Neumann Church or the Humane League of Lancaster County.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am so grateful I had known him since I was in second grade! I am also grateful I was able to see him at a Sharp family gathering, where he was hilarious and very entertaining! I am praying for all of you. Love, Nicole Engledow Matthews

Nancy & family…I’m so sorry for your loss. I worked with Earl for MANY years at EH&D and have such fun & fond memories. We always called him “Earl the Pearl”…he was certainly one of a kind who will be greatly missed. You have my deepest sympathy & will be in my prayers asking for comfort during this sad time.
