Edmund “Ed” Nimick, 92

Edmund “Ed” Nimick, 92, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, in the presence of his loving family at home under the care of Hospice & Community Care. He was born in Dickson City, PA, son of the late Frank and Mary (Bielinski) Nimick.
He attended St. Thomas College, Scranton PA, and graduated from St Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, PA, in 1949, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. Ed was employed by Met Life for 33 years, retiring as a District Sales Manager in Lancaster. He was an active member in Life Underwriters, with a CLU status. Upon Met Life retirement, he spent the next eight years at a newly appointed position with the Diocese of Harrisburg as Director of Development under the direction of Bishop Daley.
Ed was member of St John Neumann Church and actively participated as a Eucharistic Minister for 25 years, including serving as Director of the team for several years. His favorite church activity was the annual Christmas Bazaar, where he and his family ran the baked goods counter for 30 years.
Ed was an active member of the local Lancaster Chapter of USA Council of Serra International for thirty years where he served for two terms as President. He strongly supported and promoted their mission for religious vocations. He was a WWII Veteran having served 3 years in the US Coast Guard, stationed in the South Pacific, as a Radio Man, First Class. He was a member of the American Legion in Lancaster, Post 34. He was an avid Golfer at Media Heights Country Club, where he was the Handy Cap winner in 1977, and was awarded a trophy for his achievement. His favorite past time was following the Phillies and Eagles games.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Eleanor (Deissroth), son Ed, (Ruth Sweeney), daughter Carol, (John) Eberly, and daughter Helen, (widow of John) Gastaldo, six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren; a brother, Frank, Scranton, PA, and a niece and nephew.
A viewing will be held from 11 AM-12:30 PM on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Relatives and friends are invited to Ed’s Celebration Mass at 1 PM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601. Interment will be at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cloistered Dominican Nuns of the Perpetual Rosary, 1834 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 or to the Serra International Fund c/o St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

Dad’s passing signifies the end of an era. He loved his wife and children, he was successful in his professional career and spiritual involvement. He will be missed by all. I’m not saying “goodbye” but rather, “see you some day later in my life”. Love, Ed Jr.

My sincere condolences to Mrs Nimick and the family. I’ve looked forward to seeing and talking with Mr Nimick every year when he called for carpet cleaning. I was always impressed by his sharp mind. He will be missed. Greg Falk
