Edward Daniel Kane, Jr., 77
November 21, 2018
Edward Daniel Kane, Jr., 77, of Manor Twp., passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. Born in Port Chester, NY, Ed was a son of the late Edward and Loretta (Budries) Kane. Their family moved to Lancaster in 1955. Ed was the beloved husband of Brenda E. (Slupe) Kane, with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage this past July.
Ed graduated from Conestoga Valley High School and attended Penn State University. A proud member of the US Marine Corps, Ed served from 1961 to 1965. He took civic duty seriously, was a polling worker for many years and was always quick to help his family, friends and neighbors. Over the years, he worked in many areas of sales, and last worked in Inventory Control at Bed and Furniture Warehouse, from where he retired after 16 years of service. Ed was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.
Ed’s hearty laugh and friendliness meant that strangers quickly became friends, and he had a genuine gift for hospitality. Breaking into song at parties, holidays, and family weddings was his specialty, with “Oh Danny Boy” being his most requested. Always the life of the party, Ed loved his family, friends, his garden, pool and dachshunds. An avid gardener, he spent many hours designing and maintaining a colorful, well-manicured yard and many beautiful flower beds. Ed loved his wife’s cooking and baking-especially her turkey dinners and chocolate chip cookies-and also the barbecues where he was the grill master. As for his dachshunds, they had a special place in his heart and he in theirs.
Along with his wife, Ed is survived by his brother, Dr. Richard C. Kane (Lee Feitwell); two brothers-in-law, Ronald Slupe (Ellen) and James Slupe (Penny); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Ruth Pell and Irene Trefny.
The family would like to thank Dr. Spencer Phillips for his constant, compassionate care, and Hospice & Community Care for their help and guidance during Ed’s last weeks.
A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM on Friday, November 30, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA, 17601, with Father Peter I. Hahn as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Dr., P O Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.

Dear Brenda: So sorry to see this in today’s paper. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I had my Pastor mention Ed and prayers for you this morning in his Pastoral Prayer. I am so much thinking of you. I’ve been alone for 23 years. Be strong. Your faith will get you through this. I know Father Hahn very well. He used to be an attorney in the Law Office where I worked. I will be thinking of you.
