Mr Kiehl was my 8th grade science teacher and was one of the few teachers I actually listened to! 😉 we reconnected on Facebook some years ago. I enjoyed chatting with him there. I am sorry for your loss. He was such a kind man. Pat MCHS 1969

Dear Kiehl family – I always looked forward to my time spent with Ed during communion through St. Paul Lutheran church at his residence or at Moravian Manor. We spent a good deal of time reminiscing about our days at Manheim Central, sports, and any topic that came to mind. He was a joy to talk to – always upbeat, interesting and never complaining. His love for his family was very evident and I know he will be greatly missed. A true gentleman and a person of deep faith.

Jim and Wendy and your families,
I did not always “know” parents of my students, but I was well acquainted with yours because they were interested in your education and personally in conversation with me. I am sorry for the loss of your other parent and am sending my condolences with thoughts and prayers for you and your family members. Your parents provided you with a wonderful family life and encouragement to forge the best lives and careers beyond. Sending you heartfelt wishes to reminisce about all the wonderful moments with your dad–and your mom–and to pledge the same love and values they gave to you to your children and future grandchildren.
I loved having both of you as my students and wish you life’s best in the future.

I first got to know Ed Kiehl when he was in his forties and fifties when I was rooming and playing football with his son, Jim, at Johns Hopkins. He was a teacher, a loving father, an athletic director, and very much a coach-type. A life coach as much as an athletic coach. He was very kind and also had a matter-of-fact toughness to him. He was grounded in what was important. He was a person who had my respect and my admiration. He was a very strong person in addition to being a very sensitive and smart person. He loved his family fiercely. He was a devoted husband and father. He took pleasure in the small things. He always had his priorities in order. Some of my favorite memories of Ed and Sharry were our post-game meals when they would take Jim and me out and we’d relax after a busy week of school and football. He always had a smile and a word of helpful advice too. Thank you, Ed Kiehl, for being the amazing person you always were to your family and to all whom you touched. With love, Tom & Corrie Dretler

Wow! Ed was a close friend when we were in Manheim and we along with Bill Thompson formed a photoography business known as Bill’s Photo that lasted until he became an administrator at Manheim Central. My wife and I remember he and his wife, Sherry, would get together when Ed drove his big RV to the Florida area. My sincerest praise for him and his family and may he finally rest in peace.
